Server failure today @ 10:58 AM PDT
The RAID array which stores our database suffered a drive failure today which brought the site down for a little over two hours. We've corrected the problem and it should be fine again.

Is that the point of having a RAID?

The point of RAID is not that it won't fail, its that when it does fail no data will be lost...
(Why do I get the feeling I'm not the only IT guy around these parts?)
