I've used one of the Chinese go-pro knockoffs on Amazon that cost $40. It's true 1080p, has a rear screen, auto-powers-on from USB, cycles files every 3 minutes and auto-deletes the oldest file when the card is full. Also came with a buttload of go-pro compatible mounts, attachments, waterproof case and an extra battery. Hard to ask for anything more at that price.

I have been using a Papago 110 for many years now in my Toyota 4runner. I don't have one for my s2000. I keep meaning to, but I drive my s2000 maybe once every 3 months.
I think if I were buying one today, I would buy this:

don't buy one with fancy features. You never end up using them. I eventually turned off all the driver aids and alerts and other BS. Buy a small one so you can hide it from the driver's sight. I hid my for my 4runner behind the rear view mirror so it is not distracting.

I run a A118C in my S2000 (daily) and a Mobius 2 in my FJ Cruiser. I power both with a DROK 12VDC to 5VDC Converter. I tried the cheap converters and found power to be inconsistent, my dashcams would cycle power and sometimes not even power on. No matter what camera you get, make sure it has a super capacitor and not a LiPo battery. The LiPo battery can't handle the temperature fluctuations of being in a car and will balloon out and fail in a year or two. dashcamtalk is a good website to read up about the various cameras.
If you don't mind spending the money (~$200), I would get a Street Guardian. They have some of the best (if not best) night quality video and also very good support. I was thinking about getting a SG9665GC but decided to get the generic A118C instead and try out a cheaper one as my first dash cam. Both the A118C and Mobius 2 are working fine. If my A118C craps out, I'm going to get the SG9665GC.
