Default Palomares Rd to Sierra Rd drive 07/17

Hey guys and gals,

Drdoc and I have been talking about getting the summer drive series going, so here's the next one.

Let's meet at 2pm at the Safeway at 580 Marketplace, 4015 E Castro Valley Blvd, Castro Valley, CA 94552.
We'll head out at 2:30pm and take Castro Valley Blvd to Palomares Rd

Palomares is a high speed climb, with a intermediate to low speed descent canyon road. A bit of gravel on the downhill requires us to keep our speeds down on the other side.

That road tees into Hwy 84, Niles Canyon, where we'll make a left turn towards Sunol; this left turn can be busy, depending on the time of day, but Sunday shouldn't be too bad

Depending on how many vehicles we have, we can either stop in Sunol (by taking the exit and over the bridge), or continue onto Calaveras (by taking the underpass), because the town is quite tiny, and the parking lot by the general store is also quite tiny

Continuing on Hwy 84, it turns into Calaveras Rd which climbs into the hills west of the Calaveras Reservoir

Calaveras Rd is also a high speed climb, but it turns into a low speed climb near the reservoir as the road starts to wind

Left turn onto Felter Rd and continue as it turns into Sierra Rd

Sierra Rd goes 1-lane as it approaches the summit, so we'll have to keep the speeds down in this area

We'll then stop at the top of Sierra Rd before it starts to go downhill, where Felton (Zygrene) had his meet not too long ago; we can do some photos here.

After that, we can go down the hill and have drinks at the Jamba Juice near the Target on Capitol (left turn on Capitol, left into the parking lot at Target)

As we did for the Concord drive, we're keeping the start time late to avoid the cycling traffic in the morning, but as always, please be mindful of cyclists along the road. We did great last time, so let's keep it up!

Let's try to keep the turn out high, hope to see as many S2000s as possible on Sunday!

(Google maps wouldn't route this drive, so unfortunately I don't have a map to show you)

Yes!!! We can't have an active summer without people contributing to these drives. Thanks for setting this up Dave.
