May have something to do with the shorter wheel base? Not to mention the considerably greater power of the S54, something an E30 couldn't even dream of.
I drove a couple 99-00 Z3M Convertibles (the 240 HP version) before eventually getting an S2K. The S2000 was definitely more responsive, but that I6 has its own charm. Honestly both are great cars and there isn't a wrong choice here. If after a while the S2000 isn't your thing, the early Z3M's are cheap. They sound amazing, those rear fender flares are to die for, and it should be a decently reliable car.
As a s2k owner you always search for the next upgrade to the s2k, in terms of handling, style and feel i guess. I was considering the boxster / cayman S because everyone talks about it, but i feel like theres a better connection with driver's feel with porsches if you want to go 10/10 with that.
But we also consider looks too right? In my opinion I think the z4m coupe is a really rare and unique piece. You dont see these driving around often thats why i went with the z4m coupe. Happy with my combo
