Default Help me pick my next car, around 30k

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to decide on a new to me car purchase to make within the next few months. I'm looking in the 25k-30k price range because I don't want to finance more than 20k of it which would work out to about a $350 a month payment.

I own a house meaning I do home projects from time to time, I have a wife and two kids (3 and 6), I need to be able to pull my motorcycle around.

My views on buying cars is to buy them during the 4-8 year old window after they've done most of the depreciation on someone's else's dime. I typically own them for 2-3 years then sell them for almost what I brought them for. It's worked out that way with my last 4-5 cars and seems to be the most financially sound way of buying a car.

Here's a few ideas I've came up with:

2010-2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD
2010-2013 Audi Q5
2010-2011 Ford Raptor

Thoughts, input, suggestions?

I'm open to looking into other cars if anyone has suggestions.

If you want it to keep the value, the Tacoma is the best bet.. And will probably be the easiest to sell when it comes time.

Tundra of Tacoma would work, wrangler unlimited, most any diesel pick up in the price range. Raptor wouldn't be terrible with the 6.2l.

How about a Land Rover LR4? V8, nice interior and exterior. Does all the Range Rover can do, but a better value and more utilitarian.

It also typically ranks at the bottom 3 of JD Power's reliability scale among 30+ manufacturers, and will continue to depreciate to the point of the cost of repairs being greater than or equal to the value of the vehicle...

To the OP, get the Tacoma. It will be the most reliable of the bunch and will continue to have the best resale value without question.

This.

mosesbotbol is way worse than JonBoy. At least Jonboy has non-honda suggestions that are sometimes pretty good

If you get a Raptor, make sure it's a 6.2L. Very cool trucks. For those that say the Tacoma will have the best resale, sorry but the Raptor wins there. It is quite astonishing what the Gen I Raptor has done in terms of value retention.

We just picked up a brand new 2017 Ridgeline RTS for 29,500 before TTT. It's a great truck! Rides like a car, gets 28 MPG highway without much effort. We got it for a salesman at work and he's loving it. Puts 75k miles a year on his cars so it'll be tested pretty quickly.

I imagine these things will hold their values like a Tacoma

Jeep grand cherokee overland punches WAY above its weight in terms of features and the Hemi v8 can tow my s2k to the track with ease. I have a 2011 that i have had since 2011 and it has 93k miles on it. MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN VERY MINIMAL! 2014 and up are VERY nice. Have a look!
