Based on the lack of responses, i would say that Honda has a very good reason to NOT build this

Could I see myself thinking about a Civic Type R as a daily? It is pretty useful, good cargo hauler for a hatch, decent interior and fun to drive probably reminiscent of one of my old favorite the RSX Type S. But....it is really ugly.

Then I think, you know, you could pull the wing off of it and get it in the right color and it would not be so bad. It would be.......less ugly. But still a very fun to drive Honda that does a lot well.

Then I see some article say it could go for nearly $40,000. Not a chance. I can take a lot of things but ugly AND $40,000 really does not move the needle for me.

Well, then I'd take a peek if they were dealing a little and not asking above sticker. Need to see it in person. If it were a blast to drive and could be had in white for $32.5k it has some potential.

Given how long it's been since we had a Type R anything here, I doubt the first cars will be going under MSRP (same as the Focus RS). If they have a strong supply, you'll see prices come down fairly quickly, in all probability.

New video with how it sounds. Seems pretty good for a 4-banger turbo, to me (from 0:49 onward).

A Focus RS is definitely heavier (3417 lbs) but has AWD and 40+ more hp.

An STi is also heavier at 3439 lbs with similar power (but AWD).

The last-generation Euro-only CTR weighed 3050 lbs.

Given that the new Civic platform is LIGHTER than the previous generation, I wouldn't expect this weight to go up much (if at all) and it may actually go down.

So if you want lighter, buy the Civic Type R. It doesn't make as much power as the Focus RS but it matches or beats pretty much everything else out there.
If this car comes in at under 3000 lbs, it would be a homerun!
