Default XC60

With 6 months left on the Golf, the lease market is pretty dire to be honest with little of interest even remotely appealing on cost grounds. However I've been offered a good deal on an XC60 R-design D4 Nav, I've always liked them in the small / semi lux SUV sector, my wife wanted one when we got the copy cat CRV, but cost wise was in a different segment. This deal on offer brings them much closer together, so planning to go and have a look at one.

Has anyone had one? or a D4 in gerenal? My dad has a D5, but it's a 2008 car with decent miles so sounds pretty lumpy, a new motor on a 3 year deal shouldn't suffer the same.

I really don't want a diesel, but seems the sensibly engine in these things (or most SUV to be honest).

Just for the record, I'd rather have my golf, or anything remotely sporty, however, 2 kids, a dog and big tent will need to fit in our car (1 car household). My local ring road that used to offer a little bit of fun, has long been turned into traffic light controlled stop start stretches and sunday morning blasts into the country just don't happen anymore. The reality is, until I can have a second car, purely for fun, my daily needs have changed

So, back the XC60... good bad or indifferent?

It's a £34k car, coming in at a sniff over £10k over 3 years. which is about the same monthlies as my golf all in.

Be careful, the "old" D4 was the 2.4 which was a great engine. Volvo are dumping that and going 2.0 but still calling it a D4. Check which it is.
VERY rare to see these in petrol form
Pretty vanilla they go under most peoples radar.
Contemplated one for the wife.
What sort of deal are you getting?

£279 on a 3+35, £10,600 over 3 years.

It seems the MY2017 D4 is indeed the 2.0 and not the 2.4.

Not too bad depending on spec and mileage
Is that dealer or broker?
BTW the AWD system is a Haldex variant as used by VAG, if that matters to you?

It's the R-design with met paint and nav, is only 2WD version, 8k miles, 12ppm over. 8k is plenty for me, only on 9 in the Golf after 18 months and we put 13 on the CRV in 2 years.

This is broker, but will be interesting to see what a dealer can do against it, I guess it just depends who is funding it, if Volvo direct, then assume a dealer would match, we'll find out.

It's around 30% of list, which over 3 years is pretty good as 25% over 2 years seems the min you'd want to acheive, anything near 20% is very good.

It's just fixed cost motoring... if that's your thing, then suits.

OK seems a bit pricey to me for a 2WD version, these do depreciate harder than most which is obviously reflected in the monthly cost

High end of 200's monthly still a bit much for a Vulva. A4 Avants start at 210 a month with only 1k throw down, albeit a 150ps petrol. The saloons are 190 monthly, seriously cheap for the quality you get.
The Leon Cupras are back around 230 monthly, 240 for the estate tourer. The market has gone a bit strange, with various models having refresh updates. I'm less likely to lease myself although I've enjoyed the GTD for what its been - functional.
I know Baz (tailhappy) bought an xc60 and had a few expensive niggles, he's swapped to a V60 D5 2.4, 8 speed box and seems happy.
Reasonably cheap to buy these instead of lease.

Where are you seeing the A4 avant / Cupra St at these prices Tony? I've been looking and would take either of those options. I'm waiting for SEAT to come back to me on the deal for the Cupra 300 ST, as the R estate, they are not taking orders yet as the facelift car is due early next year.

as much as pistonheads gets a bad rep, there is a pretty useful thread for the latest offers, sharing of the brokers deals.

consensus seems to be find a broker deal and approach your local dealer to match and save the admin fee. Sometimes dealers wont / cant match, but my last 2 have and I prefer to go main dealer.

on a 2yr deal, aim for sub 25% of the purchase price, 20% is good, but base it on Carwow quotes and not RRP, as always good discounts. I was offered 19% discount on Golf R estate, so with those sorts of discounts, it may be that a PCP might offer good value also.

a few to look at to get started;

If you find what seems like a great deal, act fast and get an order placed as deals are often pulled / sold out quickly. The Golf R estate deals were silly money and all sold out in 2 days nationally I believe. You gotta be quick!

vehiclesavers
freedomcontracts

but as said above, not much about at the moment in terms of 'good' deals unless you want a Skoda.
