Default Scanning Recipes (high res/color)

Ok long story short. My family is one of bakers and we have lots of hand written and tweaked recipes that we all grew up with. To keep and carry on the traditions of Pies, cookies, breads, cake etc. I would like to get clear, uniform color, high resolution images. Most have stains, aged, hand written, notes added to etc. that I think are so unique and sentimental.

I am asking if you know of a way to achieve the goal of digitizing the recipes. Pictures are good but flashes suck! Though might have to setup my own photo booth.

Not sure about using a Kinko's or the like as it will take time to scan and I will probably be inefficient. Thinking about using a local camera shop as they likely have the equipment to do this but wanted to get your input on this.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, if your camera has a macro setting, you can get close up enough to fill the frame.

Put some lights around the paper and you should get a good result.

some yeas ago, I shot some pictures of old family pictures using that technique and they came out great.

You don't have a scanner at the house?? If not we do and it is pretty good, I can scan it to a file and email or whatever.

What's wrong with a traditional bed scanner? That's exactly what it's made to do. My cheapo HP has up to 1200 dpi resolution (2x better than its photo printing capability).

I don't have a good/decent quality Bed Scanner. I have an all in one but it's a POS!

I might need to setup my own "PHOTO BOOTH" and do it that way.

If you need a flat bed scanner, I have one I only used a couple of times.

PM me if interested.

Borrow a decent scanner from somebody. It's going to be far far better than any camera. Our metallurgy lab has access to exotic cameras yet gets the best results from an old flat bed scanner when recording surface treatment.

Hell Jim,

You can just go to any Staples/UPS/FedEx store and I am sure they can scan to a disc for you for a couple of bucks.

Go to Office Depot........."buy" a high end scanner and return it after a weekend of scanning! Didn't like it......sorry!

Will have to look into the FedEx/Kinkos Store.
