Default Guide to the Right Wiper

Some of you have asked me "What wiper do I use for _____ ?" Here's a quick "guide" to the Sontara "Start to Finish" packet that everyone received at DFR 2016.

Sontara Auto Wipers

Solvent Wash & Dry Wiper (Turquoise Color) - This is a VERY absorbent wiper. It was designed to be used with solvents such as paint remover. I personally use it for applying and buffing 303 on my soft top and interior. Do not use on painted surfaces - the woodpulp (absorbancy) is slightly abrasive. Doing it once wont hurt but don't make it a habit!

First Tack Cloth (Beige color sticky cloth) - this is a heavy tack cloth. It WILL leave a little bit of residue if you don't "fluff" the cloth before application. This is the "old school" tack cloth used during primer coats. If you do DIY wood or metal work, this would be a great cloth to "pick up" all the dust/shavings.

Primary Tack Cloth (Green Tack Cloth) - This is a medium tack cloth. It was designed to be used during base-coats. I think it's a great cloth to wipe down the dash, center console, and seats to pick up any dust or dirt between details. To get "more tack" stretch the cloth width and length wise. I keep one in the secret compartment and can use it multiple times before it's too soiled.

Final Tack Cloth (Blue Tack Cloth) - This is a light Tack Cloth. This was designed for the clear-coat. I think it's great for picking up dust on your dash, bezel, steering column, and the soft top tray behind the roll hoops. To get "more tack" stretch the cloth width and length wise. the Cloth has anti static properties too - so if you have a HD TV - it's great to get the dust off and neutralize the surface!

Polish/Detail Cloth (White, Soft wiper with "holes") - This is a lyocell/polyester polish cloth. It's great for getting residual wax off those "hard to get" places along trim lines and body panel seams. This is OK to use on painted surfaces. I've found it great for applying Rain X and any type of metal polish.

Clean Up Wiper (White, Creped Wiper) - This was designed to pick up paint as you clean your paint booth and spray guy. I find it useful for any general cleaning of the car. Spill some oil? Have a greasy 10mm wrench? Spill some brake fluid on your fender? Use this cloth!

I can't remember if the packet has the static control wipe - this is just a 70/30 alcohol/water wipe designed to de-charge fenders and bumpers in the paint booth before paint. It can be used to sanitize surfaces. OPEN A WINDOW THOUGH!

For those of you that got the large 100ct pop up boxes:

Maintenance Wipe: This was designed to replace the red shop towel. They can be used as "one and done" depending on how soiled it gets or for multiple uses. I keep one on hand for checking my oil...you know, AP1 probs. This is a highly absorbent towel and REALLY strong. Try ripping it in half each way...you'll be surprised...

Solvent Wash & Dry - As note above, great for any type of interior detailing, soft top buffing, or even cleaning up some brake dust! It was designed to be used with harsh solvents and should not bleed the color. If you use aerosol glass cleaner this is a great wipe. If you use a water based cleaner it might lint a little but not as much as a paper towel.

ENJOY!!!!
