Default Need help p0116

What is the fix for this code. When I first got the car it had this code but after driving a few days it went away on its own and now it's back.
P0116 engine coolant temp. Sensor circuit range/ performance.

Do I just change the sensor? Lmk thanks

BTW it's a 02 with 111959 miles

Make sure the cooling system is free of air. How does the temp gauge act? Does it fluctuate? Stay at one bar? Or overheats. Air around the sensor has been known to throw it off

When I first start the car it has 1 bar already, after its warm up only goes to 3. I'll check for air later on

the temp gauge seems to display normal operation as three bars it typical if I'm not mistaken. if the thermostat and fans are operating correctly. make sure the system is completely free of air(heater blows really hot is a good sign of an air free system) then clear the code using one of the various ways available. if the problem persist, then i personally would change the sensor located on the back of the intake manifold. if all else fails then it is a wiring/electrical problem.

when cool remove radiator cap and start car. when back to op temp turn heater on with fan on high to burp system, keep toping off as the level should go down if there is presence of air in the system. shut off car periodically and open front bleeder valve (located on right side of valve cover front of fuel rail when looking at car from front) you should hear air coming out(if any) then squeeze upper radiator hose and tighten bleeder valve while coolant comes out(as to not let air back in to the system).when doing my car, while the car is on i would blip the throttle body to get the coolant circulating. don't put the cap back on to make sure the system doesn't pressurize

i've used this with success when bleeding multiple radiators on my cars. you can come to house and use it if you want. it's pretty hassle free. gl!

if it's hard to follow look up billman 250 instructions for radiator bleed and skip to the burping section
