My '01 S dies at idle

Default My '01 S dies at idle

I was driving home today, car was running great.

I came up to a stop light, stopped, the light changed, I gave my S the gas, and to my shock it was dead. It restarted fine, and I drove off.

I came to another stop light, coasted it in neutral to the light, and it died again.

This problem went away after I got home and tried to replicate it, but it won't do it now. Any ideas on what's wrong?

I had both a full tank of gas and a partial, that made no difference.

I changed my oil just 500 miles ago.

My S has 72000 miles on it, I've never changed the spark plugs. So I'm going to change them. Is there better ones out there then the Honda OEMs?

My K and N air filter has 20,000 miles on it, I'm gunna clean it.

Recent change in weather may be the cause, the ECU has to "learn" how to keep the engine running again.
Don't help it by tapping the throttle.
The behavior should go back to normal.

Do the "MAP Wack"
There is a DIY on top of this forum.

Did you buy the car new and you drove all the miles?
If not and there is no service record of changed spark plugs then IMO its time.
My manual states to change them every 100k KM (62k miles)
The OEM plugs are pretty good.

Yeah my 02 used to do this.... it eventually fixed its self after a month or so... i heard cleaning the throttle body helps too..

I've never heard of it.

In this day and age it is cannot be considered as normal or common with ANY car.

wildncrazy...welcome to highly tuned sports car's...like i've been reminded many many many many times on this thread...this isn't your average car..this isn't a lexus...this isn't a civic...its a HIGHLY TUNED SPORTS CAR...they just do this...and every car has its quirks...sorry but if this is all i gotta deal with than sweet!!!

I'll repeat, NOT IN THIS DAY AND AGE!!!

With the computer controls we have there is no excuse for this kind of problem. If it exists on your car then you have a problem, probably a sensor malfunction.

I have owned "highly tuned sports cars" my whole life and am well aware of their quirks, this is not one of them - unless there is another issue.

IT IS NOT NORMAL!!

My S2000 does this when the oil gets a quart too low.

putting in oil ALWAYS fixes it.

I've seen numerous threads about this since i've been on here. It's not a big deal. If you allow it to the car will correct the problem on it's own.
