Thank you, Blair, for dropping by with the color chart. I didn't believe any of the rumors until Blair said it, now it's here for all to see...straight from American Honda.

First official word of the 2.2 liter...see it? It's in there!!

Oh...forgot to mention...looks like they went back to red/black and did away with the all-red interior.

I guess that finally settles the 2.2 liter debates. I'm just glad to have some information one way or another on it. Thanks for posting the scans.

'00 model year went on sale in the U.S. in late September, 1999.
'01 model year went on sale in the U.S. in late October, 2000 due to a seat belt recall done at the port of entry.
'02 model year went on sale in the U.S. in late September, 2001.
I think the same is true for '03.

I would bet the last week of September or the first week of October for the first U.S. deliveries with many dealers not getting their first until late October.

Maybe I'll order mine next week.

I just hope they don't change it to dial because even though some people think it's cheezy and gimmicky, but I find it to be quite useful in spirited driving and it feels at home on a car with a theme revolving an F1 car.

I think it's a pretty shitty move on Honda's part not to name it S2200.... it just flies in the face of the heritage that the S is supposed to celebrate.

I'm going to be very interested in the updated instrumentation and what the new redline is. I think they probably just beautified the existing digital dash though. The Civic Hybrid's instrumentation is really neat to see, so I'm sure that the S2000's can be improved in a lot of neat ways too.

I guess the 2.2L S2K is not going to be a hardtop then? There was no mention of that...

I'm also very glad to hear the new yellow isn't lighter/more pastel than the Spa Yellow. That would have killed the sportiness of the yellow. However, now I'm very jealous. biggrin.gif

Any guesses as to how the new yellow will look. I know the chart is up, but still is it a little darker than spa yellow?

It has to do with marketing. I mean, who wants to tell people, "I have a Honda S twenty-two hundred." biggrin.gif "S two-thousand" sounds much better.

Don't feel so bad. I am in the same situation. Just remember, you have your car to enjoy now, while those who wait for the 2004 will be feeling deja vu when they revisit the world of $8K-$10K markups and forced options.

Things not making sense is usually the result of the marketing geeks, of course, especially AHM marketing geeks. The only reason they kept the S2000 name is probably because S2200 sounds funny. That decision screws up the heritage of the S-series, unfortunately. Then again, could the US vs JDM Impreza issue come up? Maybe only the Americans are trying to sell the bigger engines while the rest of the world settle with the same performance but "lesser spec'ed" (read: less gimmicky numbers) cars?rolleyes.gif

Maybe the first couple months, but that's it. There are much more competition out there now. It's not by itself anymore, cuz come on...looking at the big picture, people don't tell themselves "hey I'm looking for a roadster at 30k," or "I want specifically a convertible with 9k redline." It's more like, "I have 30k, what are my options?"

You evidently haven't priced cars recently in So Cal. In March I saw G35's pushing 38K, 350Z's for $42K, and 3 S2000's at $38K. Mini Coopers are supposedly marked up bad as well, and a co-worker pricing a new Subaru STI was quoted MSRP+$10K.

I agree the gouging won't last too long. It's mainly dependent on where you live.
