well i jus found out today its possible... i was told by the last 3 dealerships/service i went to that its not... for more info, contact Tim Kwak at Menlo Honda @ 650-364-1011... really cool guy, he said to have anyone whos interested give him a call and he'll try his best to hook it up somehow... im probably gonna do it, once i come up with some cash...
all you have to do is say Adrian w/ the yellow s2k referred you... and he'll know exactly what your talking about... hope this helps some of you with money to do it --------------------

If it costs any more than $2,000, you may be better off trading in your car for a MY02 or MY03...just a thought

I think it's about $1200 in the end. It's been done in the bay area before. You guys could PM E ticket. He had it done and it looks smooth.

1200 if you add a little more, you can get a hardtop. That's still way expensive.

The glass rear window conversion has been done many times. Locally, eimea as well as E ticket have done it (just off the top of my head, there are probably others). Take a look at these threads:
Notice anything different? Retro-fit is POSSIBLE! Actually, if you can convince the Honda service manager or your insurance company to replace your top (due to various reasons, including warranty), then all you have to pay is the difference between the 2002 top (the glass one) and the 2000/2001 version (the plastic one) and that is a much smaller number (eimea said it was nothing). Or alternatively, if you do the replacement yourself, the cost for the 2002 top is only around $450. There was a recent thread with full instructions and pictures showing how to do it yourself. Do a search and you will find it. Look for posts by Hondafan or S2KRAY. Good luck. |

Actually the top alone is around $800. The only way your gonna get one for around $450 is if you convince the dealer you need a new one under warranty.

Sorry, I got the "$450" figure from a quick scan of a post by OneQuickS2k here:
http://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...50&pagenumber=3 I didn't read the context of the whole thread, just that several posts that said: Just got my '02 soft top yesterday! ($450) and I assumed that's what he paid for the top. I believe the $800 figure includes the frame, which is not needed for a DIY replacement, and the softtop itself only cost around $600 (maybe OneQuickS2k got a discount somehow). To get the complete picture, you'd better read the whole thread. Again, sorry for the confusions. |

The frame which i believe you do not need for the 01 to 02 conversion is around $1000 http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...=SOFT+TOP+FRAME
If he got the soft top for $600 thats a pretty good deal! |

I wonder if we could find a dealer who would be willing to change the worn tops under warranty. The cali owners have a higher wear rate simply because of more up down's of the top. Mine is showing signs of wear, but how much wear warrants a new one?

judging from the past week of dealing with 4 dealerships... my bet is that unless your plastic window is completely destroyed, or if your top is leaking water in the car, they will not honor a warranty replacement... jus my 2 cents |

nope tried, Honda won't do a thing. Basically the dealer tried to get mine replaced, and Honda said normal wear and tear is not covered under warranty. I tried it both Menlo and Larry hopkins. |

For those who are interested in a DIY replacement, I found the thread posted by Clovis. It has links to his step-by-step instructions with pictures. Unfortunately the links no longer work for me. But I supposed someone can contact Clovis and ask him to post the instructions again, or update the links.
Installed '02 Glass Top on '00 Frame - Instructions w/ Pictures! There is supposed to be a copy of this in the s2ki library, but when I tried to view it, I got an "Access Denied" error message, so I don't know if it is the same article or not. |
