My dealer just got the new oil filter in for the S2000 on Wednesday 9/17, he ordered them about a month ago- as soon as they were announced. Although I have not taken and old filter and a new one and cut them in half to compare the inner workings, there are some interesting facts that can be observed from the outside.

NEW FILTER: 15400-PCX-004


- Honda filters for most models have been updated and are now much smaller in diameter
- The filter for the S2000 has not been reduced in size as far as the eye can tell
- The old filter was made by Filtech Inc. and the new filter is made by Toyo Roki Mfg. Co. Ltd.
- The major change is the number of holes for the oil to circulate through. The old filter had 6 holes and the new has 8. Now mind you the old holes were ever so slightly larger, but clearly I would prefer the eight.

I still have about 6 filters left so I will be using them up slowly over time on my '90 CRX-Si. Keep in mind the original oil filter was designed back in 1986 and has soldiered on in the Honda parts bin without change since then. I suspect this change is clearly a step in the direction of improved filtering and circulation.

The only thing I was not able to check, and I am hoping Honda did not mess with me, I have the Honda Filter Wrench, the thing that looks like a huge socket that plugs onto the end of my 3/8 socket wrench. I was not able to check to see if that "socket" fits onto the new filter. It looks like it should, but I will not know for sure until tonight.

Sounds like good news. Are you willing to "take one for the team" and cut them up and compare?

He's a cheap bastard. No way he'll spring for a new filter just to cut it up even if it's for the collective good. Maybe I'll bring him a used one to cut apart...

I think the new filter is the same as the one that was reviewed. Part number is different probably because the filter was purchased in Hong Kong.

The filter that came on my car new was made by Toyo Roki. Wonder if the "new" S2000 filter is the same as the "old" filter on my car from the factory. Maybe Honda plans to use the new smaller filter on other models but keep the larger filter for the S2000.
