Generally speaking this car requires no more maintenance than any other car. That's one of the nice things about it. Certainly it couldn't hurt to have the valves checked and adjusted somewhat regularly but I've only done it once on my car and I have 80k miles on it.

What are reasonable costs for 15K and 30K maintenance and where do you go? My honda dealer wants to charge me $260 for my 15K maintenance, does that seem too much?

The only other car I've owned was a corolla and the only maintenance it ever got were fluids and oil.

I really do wonder how much of that 15K service for example is fluffy BS. Not that I want to ignore my car, but won't it probably be Ok if my door hinges go unlubed for a while?

The 15K service is basically;

1. Oil change ($30 dino, $60 synth @ JiffyLube or whomever)
2. Diff Change ($23 @ Jiffy.....)
3. Replace Air Cleaner Element ($23 from site sponsors and DIY)

The rest is BS, look at this, inspect that, whatever. If inspections are so important to you, you can easily look and touch just like they do.

You can certainly stretch the life of the diff fluid as well. Unless you track and/or drive the car like you stole it, the diff fluid can go alot longer than 15K. I recently changed mine @ 30K miles and it looked SOOO good, the guy double checked with me to see if I still wanted to replace it (and I did).

Don't give into the OVER-INFLATED dealership service.
You can do as well or better out in the real world, and save a hell of alot of dough.

Good - I concur that feedin the dealer for changing my oil & diff fluid ( which I've done 5x and 1x respectively already by 12K) is totally frickin dumm. Hopefully my tie rods wont explode on the way to work Monday.

Personally, I think most of the things in the 15K service is fluff. If you change your own oil, you're doing a pretty good visual inspection of the underside of your car already. If something looks greasy or banged up, then take a closer look. If you've never curbed or bottomed out your car, then a superficial inspection is all you need. Of course, changing the rear diff fluid should be done (if not sooner).

If you don't know what you're looking at, jack up the front of your car, buy a 12-pack of beer, and invite a friend that's into cars over to take a peek (make sure you have the car on jack stands and the rear wheels blocked if someone crawls underneath). Go down the list with him, and check it off when he's looked at it. If he's really into cars, he may even buy the beer just to have the opportunity to crawl under your car and see what it's got.

Valve adjustment isn't required until 105,000 miles, but if you want to keep it running at optimum performance you may want to consider doing it earlier. I wouldn't worry about lubing the hinges unless they squeak or they see a lot of dust & dirt.
