ALL S2000 OWNERS PLEASE CHECK YOUR FRONT BUMPER FOR PAINT PEELING/RUBBING BETWEEN THE HEADLIGHT AND THE HOOD/NOSE AREA. (PLEASE LOOK IN THE CREASE WHERE THE BUMPER MEETS THE FENDER/NOSE AREA).

I am meeting with an UPPER Honda representative this coming Tuesday 6/26/01 regarding the above referenced problem with my car (for the whole story see thread - Paint Peeling). Honda is saying it's the body shop's error and NOT the car. I want to prove them WRONG. mad.gif mad.gif

If you have this peeling/rubbing problem please personal email me the following: name, address, color of car, Year Model, Vin# if possible. I will present this information in person to the Honda Representative Tuesday. I will keep all information confidential.

Last Fall the bumper on my car was repainted under warrantee for paint peeling from the area directly in front of the hood. This issue was reported for some MY 2000 cars about a year ago.

Note that the paint for bumpers is special to flex with the plastic bumper and may not exactly match the rest of your car. Mine is very close, but not perfect, and I read that color matching is very difficult on yellow cars.

Good luck with your repairs.

Had the same problem (one side only, same place) within 3 months of buying the car. The problem was resolved for me when the front panel was replaced after an accident.

I'm fairly sure that this problem is caused by flexing of the side panels and bumper during cornering, or when driving on uneven road surfaces, causing some movement and wear at these points. Since installing a Neuspeed STB (Strut Tower Bar), I haven't experienced this problem again. This looks like the fix.

JoeyO: I'll email you the info you're looking for.

damn...

Pretty disappointing for Honda to have so many major TSB's. Yes, it's a first year production...but still.

No problems with mine yet, but less than 3 months since I got it. The posts in this thread indicate MY2001 owners are primarily discovering the problem, though.

Wondering how many MY2000 owners have found peeling on their front bumpers?

Hi Joey:

I noticed the same problem (both sides) when I was clearing out my headlamps and removed the bumper.

Of course, since I took off the bumper myself, I think I'm pretty much screwed! I did take pictures of it before I took the bumper off though.

I used some yellow touch up paint to 'fix' the nasty sight...

Who knows, maybe if there will be a TSB for it, I can still have it repainted properly...

Keep us posted!!

Only three or four poeple gave me their MY, Vin# and info about their cars paint peeling.

I printed out Siepel's pictures (see above). That peeling looks identical to mine.

But we need to show Honda that this is not an isolated incident, other S2200 have the same problem and HONDA should fix it!

was washing my one month old stook, and noticed the small peel on the right side, nice to know it isn't just mine, but also disconcerning.

JUST MEET WITH HONDA REP.
We looked at a MY 2001 Vin # 5044 it has a different design of the front bumper wich allows more of a gap between the bumper and fender!!!! NO TSB OR NEW PART NUMBER FOR THE NEW BUMPER!!!

Clearly Honda knows of the paint peeling problem and made a design change to the front bumper sometime in the 2001 production line.

The front bumper has three/four small slots (which are molded in the bumper) which sticks out which rubs against a piece of rubber/felt which is attached to the fender (there is a flat tab on the fender where the bumper rubs on [ you can't see it unless lossen the bumper up]).

They said they are going to replace the bumper AGAIN with the new design , but it may take some time, because they first have to locate one (part number) with the new design.

This is not a new problem. First reported by a number of Japanese owners way back in summer of ’99 before the car was even offered in the west. I am surprised it has not been corrected yet, but it is not universal.. all cars don’t have it. I wonder if it is a variation in the bumper, body, or fender fitment that causes it.

Well, I just took a closer look at mine and sure enough, paint peeling. MY2001 #613. How do we get them to fix it?

Mine peeled as well. Rather than hassle with dealer, I took it to get it repaired to a place of my own choosing. No problem since the repaint was done.

2001 Red, San Diego, bought the car last december.
Exactly same problem.
Figured that it will happen again if I get it fixed so I'm living with it.
Definitely a recall item, I'd say.

Oh the headaches this has caused me.
Same story at the begining:
Paint peel on my red MY2000 #5651
Took it to dealer, told to come back for the regional rep
showed it to regional rep on second trip,
was told that the bumper will be repainted.
well, after 4 visits (bad touchup, overspray all over, bad color matching, bad color matching), the color is still off. mad.gif

I've pretty much gave up on this for the moment. frown.gif Just hoping that Honda will issue some sort of recall or until 29,000 mile to take it back in for one more time.

please becareful, go straight to the service manager and make sure they'll do a thorough job. Even then, it's still no gurranttee.
This and other quality issues have convinced me that this is the last up-scale car I'll ever buy from Honda, Acura dealer maybe better.
