Update: dyno results are in!

We have been working with a company for some time. We set out with a number of goals.
  • Lose weight
  • Maintain Stock heat shields
  • Add power (or at least not loss any)
  • Retail it for less then $800.00

Well this is what we ended up with. I know we hit three of the four and we will know about the fourth after a dnyo session or two. Comments? Questions?

Weight: 12.8 lbs

Well we finally got this Dnyo'ed on the Dec 30th. Here is the results.

We got an increase in HP in the lower and mid range with the largest improvement 6hp at 6200 rpm. With a max HP loss of 3hp at the top end. As you can see from the Dyno plot it start out strong and trails off at 7600. Torque was up as well, all along the same curve as the HP.

I would say it plots out just about like the Mugen header.

Looks nice, Jeff. Are you using mild steel then coating, or Stainless steel? How thick is the flange were it attaches to the head?

It is made out of Stainless Steel. The mounting flange is 3/8" (same as stock)

Welds look very nice - if they can keep the quality up, and the flanges don't crack, and we see a few ponies, you will have a winner. (We just want it all, you know that). But I like seeing US mfr's undercutting the Japanese tuners and their yen for high prices.

Wow, looks nice. Welds do look good, but it's a shame this car requires so many of them to route a header down underneath the car (not anything against your design, because they're all like this). Can't wait to see the numbers.

Out of curiosity, what prevents someone from bending a single tube into the correct shape once the welded design is finalized?

To get nice smooth bends you use a mandrel. That's a device with a piece that goes inside the tube and stretches the metal. As a result, bends have to be close to the end of the pipe. Hence all the short lengths welded together.

Didn't realize a piece went inside the tube for mandrel bends...thought it only went through a set of wheels/pulleys to slowly bend the metal rather than making a kink.

I actually thought that mandrel bending used the same process that you mentioned Macgyver.

It that were the case, the inner diameter of the pipe would be reduced by the bend.

Am I mistaken, or does this header look similar to a Mugen design???

btw, it looks real good, I would definitely be interested if the numbers are right...

That looks amazing. Can't wait for the dyno plot. Too bad I aleady have a Toda header. If this has more gains, I could be persuaded to ditch the Toda.

Do you have baselines for the car you plan on using for the dyno testing?

Right. Mandrel bends do NOT have a decreased inner diameter.
