as clive, mark and others have suggested, i am now washing my car cover with fantastik.
as posted previously, you must use a very small amount (i use about one cap- and they are small caps!) and rinse 2 times. my question is: since fantastik comes in such a large size, what else is it good for? anyone use it to remove oil stains on the driveway? any other uses??? -------------------- chief wacko, wash n wax forum me: wanabe in my S2K! my car: darkvader '00 black/black #8382 S2KCA Member!

You can share it with other members like Clive did with me. He's a very generous guy.
I'll have to see how big the cap is. I don't have the original bottle, so I'll have to come check it out. -------------------- MarkS2K 00 S2000 (RED/BLACK) 03 IS300 (Graphite Gray) - Returned 5/28/06 93 Prelude (RED) - Retired 3/22/03 Support VOTA Racing Member #3 and Sergeant at Arms, Anti-stook Club

thanks jim- now i know what to do with that other cover! clive's reply: BTW, I think you should be using two cupfuls. Depends on the size of the washer I guess. I used the "huge" machine in the Laundromat, and the cover looked lost in it. If think of any more uses, I'll holler. Clive > when i used two caps i got the "film", and one seems to work fine- i guess it is a personal decision! still looking for more uses for this stuff!! (i like the idea of washing the rags in it) |

Isn't Fantastik the same stuff you see advertised on TV or available at the grocery store?

What kind of stores would carry this? I would rather purchase locally than over the web. |

rstark,
Clive and I looked all over for the Fantastik cleaner abd couldn't find it locally. The only place we were able to find it was on the web. There were a few other locations than this one, but they were all the same price.

That link posted earlier had shipping valued at $10 for UPS Ground. The cheapest UPS option to Hawaii is 2nd day air (no UPS Ground to Hawaii). I'd hate to see the price of shipping for that! Is there any other recommended cleaners/soap for washing the car cover? |

i used to use porsche top cleaner... and then whatever i was using to wash the car. those would be my second choice- the fantastic does a better job getting out the stains and harsh dirt (like where it rubs on the tires), and i understand that it is still gentle on the finish. |

With the Weathershield cover you just drop it in a washing machine and run it through one wash and two rinse cycles. It come out spotless. This cover is a breeze to keep clean for that reason.

back from the dead... is this under the assumption you're using fantastik as detergent? or are you suggesting washing with no detergent at all? -------------------- ![]()

I believe fantastik is a mild type of detergent suitable for car covers. |

No I didn't. I ended up parking in a shaded area so I didn't have to worry about the sun. Although I'm in a different job now, and my car is exposed to the sun all day. I may have to go with a car cover, unless I can avoid it. I'm Zaino'ing the car weekly to avoid a car cover. If you get some, let me know how much the total cost with shipping is to Hawaii and how well it worked for you. |

I've been washing my cover for over two years now with a small amount of non bleach liquid detergent (same stuff I wash clothes in) and not had any problems. I think this fantastic stuff is recommended but IMO not the only way to go.

fantastik is (I guess) a trade mark owned by the S.C. Johson Wax Co.
The logo on the link provided by wanabe above looks pretty much exactly like the logo on the spray bottles of fantastik you see in the grocery stores etc. Makes me wonder if the like above is just a bulk way of buying the same product ?? See http://www.fantastik.com/ to see what I mean. Thoughts ?? --------------------

The Fantastik that they recommend is indeed the same fantastik that you but at any supermarket, I just called Cal. Car Cover ( they recommend using Fantastik for all their covers ) and I was told that there is only one FANTASTIK and it is what is used for cleaning car covers. save your money on shipping, go to the local grocery store.

Fantastik in non-bleach form is a good, safe product to use on the exterior, leather, and vinyl for those tough spots to get out. Regular use is not recommended on leather or vinyl.
