Sorry guys but this isnt a kill
Anyways, im sure its gonna pain some of you, but im thinking of selling my Evo and getting a GTO. Ive had my Evo for a few years and as with most cars, im starting to get bored of it. I want to get something that is already pretty quick stock and I want something with room. I thought about a C6 Vette, but we already have a Vette and I dont really care for 2 seaters. The GTO is pretty cheap, 06 for $31K and of course I'll mod it Most of you guys already know my mods, but if not there listed below...Im selling it for $22K obo. Lol quik, 2 american cars now? (well the gto is australian)... I know what you mean about getting bored of cars quickly, and I suggest you do sell the EVO. But, (IMHO) I would rather drive an EVO than a GTO. With that being said, it's not a bad car (my friend has an '04 that I've driven a lot), but you will deffinately need a short-shifter. I don't know... but how about this. Used 2001-2002 BMW m3 ~40,000 miles, $30,000? -------------------- ![]() ![]()

Quik, I'd keep the EVO. But if I had to pick one between a GTO and a 03-04 Cobra in your shoes, I'd pick the Cobra. Only because you already have a Z06, no matter how you mod the the GTO you can always do the same to the Z and it'll be faster due to the weight. Cobras are even more easier to mod than the LSX, and cheaper also. But I do like the looks of the GTO better than the Cobra.

Say it aint so
If you are gonna get rid of it you should prolly part it out if you have the stock parts. If you cant be arsed, or dont have the bits, then fair enough. As for what to get next. Thats a toughy. You already have a 2 seater monster. A cobra will be really fast, has 4 seats, but is pretty ugly. A GTO is OK looking, not as fast, but moddable into fast teritory. M3 is sweet looking, has 4 seats, is sweet looking (did I mention that twice You could also buy a magnum or a charger with a V8 and mod them-more space inside (if you need it for kids etc) The G35's are nice too and can be quick with a turbo kit How about an 05 caddy CTS-V? Options are a plenty. All depends what ya are after Seeing as the evo is a bit "young boy racer ish", Id go with something a bit more refined and comfy, but moddable into a highway monster. |

Im lookin into getting a GTO too! Theyre a really good buy, and I'm sure you can get major discounts off sticker which leaves you room in your pocket to get a few small mods on it

Well I can't say the GTO is a bad car, especially the 400HP version. So if you decide to go with that car, then it's really not bad choice. Probably keep you interested for awhile until you get bored with that. There is also another car you can get that could possibly interest you for even longer, and that is an EVO IX. You can pick up a 2006 EVO IX GSR for around $31k. It's a night and day difference between your 2003 EVO VIII and a 2006 EVO IX. I see the mod list you have for your 2003 and I tell you, you should be pleasently surprised when your 2006 IX dynoes higher with just a TBE, MBC, and Flash. The 2006 hasn't been out for too long, so it's still unknown what the level of power will be for this car. Many including me honestly see this car easily making over 400WHP on the stock turbo and pump gas. Why not, some are already making 340-350WHP with just a Flash, TBE, Intake, and MBC. HKS is set to release Cams for the EVO IX soon, plus a couple of FMIC meant for the VIII do fit on the IX and have shown positive gains of 10WHP+. The most interesting thing about the IX is the cost factor. Just imagine, $1,800 or less later, your IX will easily walk that Z06 in your sig (if it's stock). Now the GTO is also a good car, I've seen them running low 13s@105-107MPH at the track, and with around $2,500 worth of modifications you should be able to run mid 12s@110-112MPH, but my friend, you will not walk that Z06 in your sig. Still I have to give the GTO some credit, it has an amazing interior. Also if you really want to go back to muscle again, then I wouldn't suggest a GTO, but suggest you wait awhile for the new Camaro or Challenger, then again those cars may cost well over $35k.

Biased view here being an 05 owner so you know were my vote would go. Engine does take to mods nicely. I installed as med. sized cam, long tube headers and a magnaflow and gained over 70whp. So that is getting you pretty close to 500 crank hp which ain't bad at all.
Guy on ls1gto has this same setup with an auto running 12.1X's at 114mph or so. I am looking into a TNT 100 shot to push solid into the 11's and I will probably call it quits at that point. -------------------- 05 GTO - cam, SW lt's, magnaflow 423 in Phoenix 359 in Colorado(ugh 60hp loss :( ) |

Because you have a ZO6, and ONLY because you have a ZO6, personally, I'd keep the EVO. I love the new GTO but to me, it's kind of the same class of car as the ZO6 (FR layout). The EVO does have 4 doors and it's just a different car altogether with it's AWD. The way I see it, if you're going to have a couple of different toys, I'd rather have two different toys than two that are sort of the same. I hope that makes sense.

if i were you, the only cars i'd get after you sell the Evo 8 are either the supra tt or an Evo 9. GTO is nice, but only nice in the straights. if you only care about the straight then i guess it's good, but if ure not, u'll get bored of the gto very fast i think. like someone said the Evo 9 responds very well to mods. a supra tt, i know it's old, but they can be made into monsters easily and plus you'd have back seats as well. just my 2 cents. good luck with ur sale.

Here is a nice video of a modified EVO vs. modified GTO.
2006 EVO IX- Turboback Exhaust Intake Upper IC Pipes with 1G BOV MBC@18.5PSI Tune vs. 2005 GTO- Catback Exhaust Intake Tune http://videos.streetfire.net/player.aspx?f...3D-085143E64998 Funny thing, is the EVO IX owner forgot to bring his spring to turn the boost up (so he was only running 18.5PSI). He went a week later, same exact mods (but at 21PSI) and ran this- http://videos.streetfire.net/player.aspx?f...6A-B0CAAB42BE65 Not bad for $1,500 worth of mods. |

Just in case it is hard to see in the second video, he ran a 12.0@112MPH, could of had a higher trap speed, but he hit the rev limiter.

i think all examples are really good choices...but if you have the z06, youll probably get bored of modding another gm...i know its two different worlds between a z06 and a gto but the two are probably very similar in a way...for a replacement for the evo i would go with either a bmw m3 or an e55 amg...both nice looking cars and they are both pretty fast as well...but also keep in mind the big dollars you are going to have to spend on parts when something breaks...

Thanks for the replies guys...I know all about the 06 Evo, but why would I sell mine to get another no offence
I actually drove the GTO today and well...it felt slow I love M3's but I have heard from several people that reliability sux on them. The owner of WORKS (my Evo tuner) is a former Engineer for BMW and I talked to him about it today. He said after a couple years your gonna be putting so much money into it, its not even funny. I really think my best bet is a Cobra, im with everyone else here, I dont think they look that great, but oh well "at least its fast" |

Well the reason why you would sell your 2003 VIII to get a 2006 IX is because the 2006 is that much better. Also I don't understand how you feel that you would get further into debt for trading into a 2006 EVO for $31K, when a GTO which also costs $31K would put you in the same debt. It's your choice dude, and whatever you choose I hope you enjoy. The Cobra is a very nice car, and a much better choice in my opinion than a GTO, although you can get a GTO brand new, but can only get a Cobra used. Not that big of deal though, in my opinion I feel like a 2003/2004 Cobra is a better car performance wise than a 2006 GTO. The M3 is also a great choice, but again your dealing with a used car, and the only M3s you'll find for around $31K is a 2001 and it will probably have around 40,000 to 50,000 miles on it, maybe more. Still used or new, the M3 is a really good car. Hard and expensive to mod though. The good thing, that for $30-$32K there are a boat load of choices, from 02' C32 AMGs, to 03'/04'Cobras, to 06' GTOs, to M3s and even a 98' Supra Twin Turbo, this is truly the age of the performance vehicles. Rest assure, what ever you choose, you should have a great time with it. |

If you really want straight-line speed I think your Cobra option is a good one. Look at putting together a KB blower package and you'll have more power than you can put to the ground. Budget for lots of drag-radials!
