Default Resonator removal videos

This afternoon I took the plunge and had a local shop take out the resonator on my otherwise stock AP2. Just to be nice I decided to take some before AND after videos and try to post them up here for everyone else.

Let's see if I have these videos hosted correctly. Videos are 11 MB AVIs, recommend right click and save.

Before video

After video

If those direct links don't work, try going to my .mac homepage and find them there.

Please note that the camera was a little closer to the car during the after video, which may seem to account for the slightly increased sound. However, when driving the car, it really does NOT seem any louder. I would describe the new sound as "without resonator but with more character."

Photo of the removed resonator:

And a shot of the straight pipe welded in its place:

Comments are welcome, but count me as another person who loves this very inexpensive mod!

Sounds good . If I was to ever use the stock exhaust then this would definitely be the route to go.

I did this mod yesterday as well, but I can barely tell a difference, did you have that "handle bar knob thing" removed as well? Do you know what it is for?

The "handle bar" thing is call the Helmholtz resonator (spelling?). I did not have it removed. It's there to prevent droning.

That's good to hear, I'm glad I did not have it removed then. I'm curious to what this will sound like with a test pipe as well.

actually sounds better without the res. i would definitely see doing it as an alternative to loud and costly aftermarket exhausts....any difference in driving...better or worse?
