This is a hard one, but may be the Audi is finally giving the 911 a run for the money.
The GT3 would be more fun and sporty, but it's hard not to believe the Audi would be the best everyday sports(GT)car (if you don't need a lot of trunk space).
I think the rear-engine leading to long front/rear overhang in the 911 is showing the compromise of it's old fashon design. I don't think any company starting from scratch would touch a rear engine design with a 10-foot pole. I know Porsche has the heratage and Rear engine is it's thing, but the new cars (clean slate cars) will mimic more the F430.
The R8 12" longer wheelbase with 2" shorter body compared to the 911.

Hard to believe it's 3s a lap quicker than a 911TT! With the TT being the (significantly) faster accelerating car, probably better braking (legendary Porsche brakes), and easily as grippy, it's hard to see how it is so far behind.
Is agility worth 3s more than power, grip, and braking?
