I'd take an '05 NSX with a nice set of rims, body kit, and supercharger (or turbo) over a brand new GT-R. That's saying something. |

Allright guys, the NSX 91 looks like I might pass on it. I'd rather pay more $$ for a better condition NSX with more maint records. Its nice but still needs a few k's thrown at it to make it mint.
I just found a Red 97 Supra TT with 80k miles mint. $30k............only thing is its an auto but an auto is technically faster than a 6 speed for the Supra. Only mod are rims and CAI. The owner said he has 3 Supras and just sold an NSX. Hmmmm not sure if he was pulling my leg. Talked to him and hes the 2nd owner with all maint records and up to date. Timing belt and Water pump just done a few months ago also. Heres a few pics and should have more shortly. I think I might need to check on this bad boy... ![]() This post has been edited by SilverKnight on Feb 27 2008, 08:46 PM -------------------- ![]()

I've driven both manual and auto Supras. I liked the 6-sp much better because, although the auto seemed pretty fast, it was rather boring.

Thanks guys
Latest developments. After going through all the Supra boards and reading as many topics as I could on the auto models(hundreds of threads if not in the thousands range).......I will be mainly sticking to manual. Auto tranny is capped around 450HP before it needs upgrades. 6 speed is just insanely strong and can go up to 800HP. Auto is slightly slower than manual! One review had a same day testing of 4.7 vs a 5.1 and a different of 2-3mph on trap along with .2-.3 difference in the 1/4. Auto would be more consistent on a 1/4 but not exactly faster. Plus you read many more auto owners trying to go to manual conversion and never the other way around Back to searching again for that lucky Supra TT or NSX MANUAL. Key word is not to settle Good news is with lending and credit being harder to dole out along with recession looming and falling home prices, this means more of a buyers market for these types of cars This post has been edited by SilverKnight on Mar 1 2008, 09:23 AM |

It's more about the torque than it is about the HP, and general estimates are that 450+ rwtq will require you to get a built auto unit.
I'm not sure about the auto being slower than the manual. Maybe it depends on the driver, but for drag racing (straight-line) purposes, the auto is faster because it holds the boost between shifts. This is what I've been told (I have a 6 speed, but dont drag race). Auto to manual swap is not worth the cost, for new buyers. Since you're in Seattle, have you looked at VIP Imports? They're a Supraforums sponsor and usually have a few Supras available that you can look at. I'm sure they can give you their assessment of Supra vs NSX as well. There are a bunch of NSX's for sale on Prime. Then you can see the LBBP vs Silverrock wars that Spr2 refers to. |

And the NSX was such a bargain? Supras still holding their values very well..I guess that means they might have been underpriced? I know my MKIV was very a forgiving car once you got use to the mass. It never had the snap oversteer magazines spoke about the NSX when pushed to the limit. I'm sure the Supra will spank a NSX around any type of track any day modded or stock. NSX was a bargain for what it was hand made , all aluminum , mid engine and such. Stock for stock they're almost dead equals when compared to a 3.2 six speed. NSX just a bit quicker in the 1/4 mile probably due to aerodynamics. People think the Supra is more of a drag car because that's what their owners started modding them to do. Although I've only seen one Supra on the track ( it hit a wall ) it seemed very confident. I don't know why more Supra guys don't track their cars Fast and Furious is what shot Supra prices up. Unfortunately the same thing may happen to the NSX as it will be in FNF4. Believe me the NSX blue bloods are already upset that it may get the Supras ricer popularity. |

Stock for Stock: early 90's car - yes, because the NSX had 205/225 15/16's Wider 215/255s would have made it closer, if not in the NSX's court. Modified vs. modified? |

NSX... It really changed the sports car industry...
First Aluminum bodied car First DD sports car (arguable) but it did not spend most of its time in the shop. Many car enthusiast recognize the NSX as the reason that Ferrari and Porsche focused on Quality and reliability in the late 90s.. First VTEC and thus variable valve timing engine Thus I move that the NSX be a historical land mark, that moves... -------------------- |

Valid points but not very accurate. It was not the first aluminum bodied car. It was not the first car to use VVT, they werent even the first in japan to use it in cars (nissan was) and the nsx wasnt the first honda to use it- b16a was the first. And I agree that the nsx was the first high dollar sportscar to be reliable and what not, but cmon, they have the backing of Honda to build it and they didn't exactly shatter the power ceiling with it- 300zxs, supras, 300gts, rx7s, zr1s all made equal or more power and were just, if not more, reliable, let's not even mention the skyline. And build quality on ferraris and such didnt get better, you basically need a new engine every 20k still. Yeah they got more comfortable to drive, but thass the beauty of research through experience, Ferrari and lambo didnt have th resources or desire to research things like ergonomics when they could be researching how to get that just right engine note or how to make teh doors open. Yes Gordon Murray had a few of them, but when he made his perfect car, he didn't go knocking on honda's door now did he? Honestly, if the NSX looked like a GTR, everyone's perception of it would be drastically different. I'm not saying the nsx is a bad car, in fact it's a great car and I would love to own one, but I would own one simply because I love the way it looks and it does offer an invigorating drive- but it's suppose to because after all, it's a low production, 100K+ 275hp car, it better make me smile. My friend said it best, "it's like saying shes a good mother because she takes care of her kids... SHE'S SUPPOSE TO DO THAT!" --------------------
