QUOTE (TakmaN @ Jan 19 2009, 12:48 PM)

Also, I don't know if anyone has heard of Linea Corse's, but the BMW (including M3's), Lexus, etc. crowd have made these quite popular. Albeit this brand does have their own designs, but they have some blatant knock-offs. Their Linea Corse LeMans for example, 99% identical to BBS LMs. I showed a set I had to people and no one knew they were not BBS without looking at markings or stamps. The M3 crowd surprisingly welcomes these wheels with open arms. Considering their cars costs $50k+ (or $25+ used) and are rocking these, I don't see why so many s2k owners are throwing up such a fit.

Sorry, but I am not sure that your comment about the "BMW crowd" is accurate and portrays the entire crowd in general.

There are those who own M3s who do not mind the replicas just like some of these S2000 owners here; but for the most part the majority are not supportive of that and they are not welcome with open arms. You just don't see as much bashing.

For most M3 owners are able to tell the difference from the replica from the real deal. I can also guarantee you that if these Linea Corse owners stick that stupid BB5 center cap on there, they will get some scolding from any m3 owners as well. If replica owners are ok with buying replicas, why do they need to pretend that its not replicas?

And please do not bring up the price thing. Different folks value different things differently. Someone who builds his 93 civic from the ground up will value it more than a 2008 civic. If you are a car enthusiast you would understand. Just because the s2000 is XXXX cheaper, does not mean owners of these "cheaper" cars should not value it as much as m3 owners; and thus want to "spoil" their cars.

Would you buy sh!tty dog food if you got your dog free vs. if you bought your dog for $1,000?

And integlspwr: so the people who buy "real" sports car really buy it for its purpose? Do you think every s2000 owner track their cars? Or Z06, elise, etc. owners? Again your argument is subjective because if someone values their s2000 a lot and want to buy only top quality products (spoil their car) is that wrong? Are those people who spend $300 on some super running shoes going to be bashed because they do not use it for its intended purpose? People like to spoil things they value a lot.

I don't understand why people constantly say that just because the car is cheap it warrants only cheap products and that the owner should not really value it as much. I guess if you really believe this, then your idea of a good car is only those that approach the six digits and that means the cheap ass s2000 is a crappy car right? I see this mentality quite a bit on the BMW forum everytime the s2000 comes up. A quick judgment is given by some that S2000 = Honda = cheap car = not good which is sad IMO.

With that said, everyone of course is entitled to spend the money they want. I have nothing really against the owners who buy replicas (everyone values things different). Its just the company that has real issues.

I usually dont put my two cents in the Rota bashing bucket, but with the economy the way it is and more people strapped for cash Rota will get a lot more sales in the near future....

The downside is this could severely impact the original manufactures and end up pushing them out of business. Then Rota will have nobody left to copy and since the cant design their own stuff, they will go under...

The Tuning world will be forced to stick with oem wheels or swap with other OEM wheels....sad...so....sad frown.gif

For the record I HATE Rota wink.gif and would rock OEM before buying and supporting their company.

I'm a Rota Boost owner for almost a year now. I drove over some mild to wild pot holes and to my surprise my rims are still not bent. I drive my s2k daily and had these rims during the winter time with salt on the road and again to my surprise the Hyper black color is still nice and glossy. And plus, I've taken my S around the back roads many times going pretty damn fast with some really sharp curves. I had no doubt in these wheels which put a smile.gif to my face. For the price, it's amazing!

Yeah they're about 1-2 lbs heaver than my 16" stock AP1 rims but that's a whole new number from 16-17" and from 6.5" width to 7.5 in front and 8" in the rear. More height and width = more weight and equals bigger tire and more air another factor in weight.

As far as fitment goes. It's pretty darn close to stock specs.

My friend that drives a G35 has a set of Volks and he said that he wishes Rota would have made the same style and size for his G coz he just paid wayyyyy to damn much for his Volks.

To the haters out there, keep hating because all it does is put a smile.gif to my face knowing you paid to much for a name brand where I paid way less for a brand that has the same strength and quality. smile.gif

When I purchase stuff for my S I do tons of research before I go out and buy stuff. 3 main things I look for. 1) price 2) performance 3) qualityness and style. Rotas definitely pulled all three with ease.

Haha, I love people hating on rotas.

Our 1140 ALL WHEEL HORSEPOWER, 8 second Drag EVO runs on 15" rota slips and they even have holes drilled in them to bolt the tires. The car has done numerous single digit passes and no problems at all. Thats not to take away from other brands, but I think Rotas are good wheel for the money.

Here are some pics and videos to prove it.

My first set of wheels ever was Rota Slipstreams. I was in high school and I had never heard of the Regamaster Evo (goes to show just how common Rotas have become). I was so pissed when I found out that I had bought a replica part.

user posted image

The day I found out about the Regamaster Evo, is the day mine bent on a pothole. A few days later, I take the car up in the canyons and hit a small rock which took a big chunk of the wheel out, causing the tire to lose all air and sending me into a guardrail. That is why I will never purchase Rota again. But I keep the wheel around as a reminder to myself, and hopefully to others around the internet.

user posted image

When I totaled my AP2 with Advan RG1's on the same canyon road, I slammed into a guardrail with the front end, my car spun around and smacked the quarter panel. There was a lot of debris (sticks and pebbles) jammed in between the front wheel and tire bead. No damage at all, but ironically, when the tow truck came and towed the car up, he put a small curb in the rear wheel's lip.

So if you are okay with a company profiting purely on replica designs (they don't have a SINGLE design of their own), then by all means go for it, but don't fake the funk. Don't go around telling other people that they meet certain criteria regarding certification of wheel strength either because Rotas do NOT go through the same strict testing as Japanese wheels.
The VIA/JWL marks and JAWA labels that you see are FAKE. The knockoff companies take the original wheel to make a mold and don't bother removing the stamped markings. They also copy the number-less JAWA certification stickers and apply them on the inside, again to fool you. It's a bunch of Japanese script without the (removed) serial numbers. THINK about it for a second, why would a Phillipine wheel manufacture have a "Japan light Alloy Wheel Association" certification?

Your story is irrelevant. We use rotas on the track for HPDE and E1 class and other race events like time attack and never had a problem. My girlfreind slammed a guard rail in our s2k going 40 and broke the control arm, the ball joint, headlight, fender and rotor dust shield and the front rota did not get bent. The rota took a direct hit and it scuffed the wheel bad but it balances out perfect. All it needed was to get repainted and its back on the car again now, good as new.

I have Rotas, Enkeis and Real Volk TE37's and guess what? They all bend in the city from potholes. Wheels are wheels.

Alexthemovie,

I see what you're saying. To me, it sounds like you had a bad case with Rota. Any giant name brand product can fail at any moment and that's a fact Jack. Even if Rota wheels didn't get inspected by the JP inspections, it certainly doesn't mean they're weak as f*** from the way you made it seem.

I guess you didn't read my post thoroughly coz I've had my Rota Boost and DD my car for almost a year now. Can you imagine as a DD what kind of hell these wheels went through? Guess not because you didn't read my first post. biggrin.gif Your little incident does not mean Rota makes bad wheels ALLLLL the time.

Just like what Alex@GMS said, wheels are wheels.
