yes you can use it for bugs and tar just make sure the surface is not hot.

So don't you find it funny that MoeMistry on 6speed recommends washing the engine bay after the engine has been running for 5+ minutes? lol.gif

So you clean the engine when it's warm too...?

Yeah.. well obviously you have to pull it out of the garage/etc. But pretty much a cold engine. To keep you safe.. as well as keep water spotting down. Even with DI water from a CRSpotless if it gets hot enough, it will spot. And if then engine is hot enough to boil (steam) water, than it's easily 212+*F on that engine, and easily above 100*F directly around the engine bay.. which means it's MORE likely to spot, regardless of DI water.

If there's other adverse effects other than the water just "steaming" off the engine, I don't see why one WOULDN'T wash the engine bay when it was cool...

I only wash a cold engine. I find the water leaves spots/marking where it starts to evaporate. Results are almost always better on a cold car!

Interesting articles Phil.. never thought twice about what I was doing is "not the norm" as I learned from detailing addict and ex-guru MikeyC who created a whole book on detailing catered to the S2000.

I'll definitely re-consider my process after reading the articles. Though, I don't see the benefits personally.. it may be worth a shot

None of my cars ever got dirty enough to let grease accumulate so I guess a warm engine wouldn't really help.
