I was talking to Marc (Crazy_Schizo) during the last B&B about rear spoilers.

He said he thought he had seen a rear spoiler somewhere that was only as wide as the 3rd brake light, in other words it did not span past the width of the 3rd brake light like the OEM version, or the Veilside shown below.

Have you ever seen anything as narrow as the 3rd brake light in your travels???

I just love the Veilsive V1 rear spoiler, shown here, but they only come unpainted, and I just know, I'll never get it painted and have it match My Spa. I would love to find a narrow little wing that attaches to the top of the brake light that has the same steep upward angle like the Veilside. This way I could just go with black and not have to worry about a poor paint match. Have you ever seen anything narrow like that?

Yeah, I did some searching around on a few good JDM sites and the like and still nothing. The Backyard Special spoiler is nice and narrow as well. But nothing like the Modulo (OEM parts) spoiler I can find. (is that Yoda speak? hmmm)

Eldrid, who lives only a few miles from me, has that particular Veilside spoiler on his S2k and I gotta say it looks good, especially with a hardtop.

The Backyard Special is nasty, I don't want to cover up the 3rd brake light, I just want to put like a little hat on it.

This is the Backyard Special, and I can't see how this would pass inspection.

Ignore most of the Spoon HT, and yes this rear spoiler is a little heavy handed, but this shows the idea, notice how it only cover the middle section of the trunk lid.

I can't ignore that hardtop, thats the one I want, besides the Mugen one.

Yeah, that would be the only spoiler (portion) that goes just over the 3'rd brake light.

Mandy doesn't want me buying a hardtop someday, but you know how it goes, she's not making the payments... lol.gif

Such a beautiful wing...

Thanks for offers on pics, but I'm good.

You could say a few things about the mounting procedure and the tape that gets used as there is no metal hardware.

Thanks!

Once installed does it actually contact the top of the 3rd brake light?

Haven't gone to the shop yet. It's primer from the manuf. and will be installed along with the rest of my body parts. I found Mr. Anal paint that only does show cars. He complains about paint match on brand new cars so I think it'll come out looking OK biggrin.gif

That's great Mike, I hope Mr. Anal takes care of ya!

My only experience to date with My Spa has been one much like a nightmare. After the hood was repaired from the flying Toonie that took out the front window I have never been happy with the color. I tried over and over to get the so called best paint shop to fix the problem but in the end they claimed they could not see the problem, so they could not fix it. In simple terms the repaired area is more like Rio yellow instead of the Spa yellow it should be. They did not get enough of the pearlescent in the 3rd color coat. Spa BTW is a 3-step color, that is why they went to Rio, it is only a 2-step like all the other colors.

Sorry for the late response. I almost forgot about this thread. There is no mounting hardware that comes with the V1, but you can definitely mount it to the trunk. The shop I went to gave me some double sided tape, and it really does hold up well (at first I was afraid) I haven't had a problem at all with it, even when the hot sun is baking it (and my car is black). The wing doesn't touch the 3rd brake light.

Thanks, appreciate the reply.

As far as the tape mounting, I have never heard of anybody having a problem.

How heavy is it, as in does anybody switch the trunk spring? As I recall the trunk lid spring is different on those cars equipped with the OEM rear spoiler.

I test fit mine yesterday. Doug I can't even say that it weighs a pound. It's so light I could not even feel it in my hand when carrying it. I dont think the trunk springs will have a problem. I did not try to pop the trunk since the spoiler was not secured.

FWIW, I've got the replica version which I picked up for $140 shipped. I saw no reason to get authentic on this piece as its so small and subtle anyways.

Tape mounting is ok as long as it is prepped right and the wing is not used as a handle.
This vid is just meant to be funny....
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Ricer-w...-off_204422.htm

Oem spoiler and wing use heavier springs. Not much, just a little.
I think that the spring thing is just a little fluff. I have the oem wing spoiler, and the trunk popped up just fine with the oem springs. With the heavier springs, it pops just a little higher.

No problem with the regular oem springs. The wing is extremely light no matter what version you have. It's a hollow spoiler, but the design is solid... ponder2.gif hopefully you understood that haha. The only difference with the replica and the real V1 is the badge obviously.

WHAT?
Post me up da link!

At that price I might be willing to gample on painting, plus, maybe, ponder2.gif if I found a shop that did it well I could get my hood redone.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea.

I have thought about a spring replacement because my lid used to really pop open, now it just releases, so if my hands are full I have to set something down so I can use one hand to actually open up the trunk.
