I got some tools and a S2000.
This should be interesting. If anyone's got some input or helpful things along the way post it.... I'll be back every so often to read up as I get stuck. Thanks in advance, -Greg (I know I should have a manual but.... Well I got the valve cover off, spark plugs out, Vtec out.
Next I gotta figure out if I have to pull the Turbo manifold and Intake manifold or if I can somehow get it out with it all attached. Reason I want it all out is removing the turbo manifold is a nightmare due to the angles, if it was all off it'd be a piece of cake. I think it'll all have to come out. ehh oh well. Time to drain coolant I suppose so that doesn't go all over the place. |

Ehh, "professional" is all too loose of a term I've found.
I won't skip a manual for the INSTALL side. Especially the TQ of the head bolts and timing. And YES the motor is broken lol. ****************************** SO FAR... I have removed the turbo and manifold. Removed the valve cover, removed the cam and cam caps. Also the Timing chain tensioner of course and no I didn't bother pinning it so i'll fight it into place later. Now I'm just about to remove the timing gear and lift the head off the motor. I'm worried about proper order of removing the head bolts... I'm gonna have to read on that perhaps. |

OK.... I'm stuck... got the timing gear out, let the chain fall to it's little pin that catches it on the shortblock.
HOW THE %$#% do I get the bottom half (rocker assembly) of the cam cups to come off the head? They appear to be held by nothing yet they aren't coming off. The top had 4 long bolts that went through both parts into the head, now that those are gone the top half came off no prob.... the bottom appears to be stuck. I did a little tapping but no luck..... time to search for threads i guess. |

Update: got em off, had to pry with a screwdriver from UNDER them.
Now I gotta figure out what size these 12pt head bolts are and BOOM.... I'll have this thing off 2 or 3mm HG will be another choice I'm gonna have to think through. IF I go fully built it'll be a 3mm I think otherwise maybe just 2mm. ehh looks like I might have to pull the intake minfold....and that is a B#TCH. |

I got pics, I'm just too much of a lazy ass to upload just yet.
I'm considering a write up but Special_ops2k did a decent one... however it'd only work for a experienced mech. We all like picking on me..... I think I deserve it so no worries I first need to upload the pics of Stocky racing last weekend @ the speedventures event. Working on that. -Greg |

Well.... here's the thing. I can't really estimate time for a typical job.
Reason is, I'm turbo so, removing the turbo manifold in my case means pulling 5 studs (very time consuming with the TINY ammount of room) and the waste gate plus downpipe plus dump pipe. Total with that = 5hrs of work time, 3hrs if I wasn't turbo. I was taking my time to make mental note of direction and position of everything such as timing chains and valves, etc. *********************************************************** Now it looks like I just need a new ring on cylinder #3. I have to decide just to do that + low compression HG.... or do a full build w/ laskey for $3550 foir 600whp. I'll give it some thought. It'll be a couple months before I work it the cars goals out. I stripped the trunk bare 2 days ago. I may strip the entire car until just the seat/steering wheel/pedals remain. Thinking it over. (full cage would follow of course) -Greg |

3550 just because the piston ring is bad on cyl 3. Not very cost efficient if you ask me. Why not just replace pistons/rods ?

The Laskey built engine is peace of mind to boost as much as you want and play. -------------------- Dark Sideways It is better to make torque at high rpm than at low rpm when you can take advantage of gearing. 284.3 ft lbs of torque at 9400 rpm Current Dyno Playing with the big boys Joe ALANIZ is a thief

Decisions, decisions.
After driving STOCKY's caged and stripped car with carbon doors/trunk/HT/seat. I kind of fell in love with the idea. The car felt nothing like an S, it was SOOO nimble. As for built or just fixing..... still stuck in the middle. I'll work on pics and maybe get em up today just depends on how busy work is and what not. I think a write-up would be a good idea since when I searched I didn't find any step by step for the average joe. ****************************** Now that my car is apart it's time to do all those little fixes and upgrades. CDV is going to go this week, that's the first thing. Also I need an oil pressure gauge, it's crazy that stock the S doesn't come with it. (not a very "racecar" move on Honda's part) The other thing I need is that multi AEM gauge placed where the MODE button is on the stereo (left of steering wheel). Oh, and a rear tower brace. Plus I'd like to make an under car tray or something to improve airflow. Someone made one maybe I'll look into that. ****************************** Anyone know who could build me a Turbo back full 3" exhaust out of titanium without charging me 10,000 dollars? -Greg |

One other thing..............................
Now would be a good time to think about that Hondata Intake Gasket...... I've heard a couple bad things too though. I think on a turbo car due to heat it'd help even more. Then again my HOOD IS VENTED SO THE HEAT IS FAR FAR LESS THEN AVERAGE. (shameless plug) |
