I ran stock class since my car is stock. But since I have no mods, my car could still technically run in a higher class (Street, Modified, and Unlimited). For example, in autox terms, if my car classed for A-Stock, I could still choose to run BSP, but that wouldn't make any sense since I would get destroyed.
Stock class, however, isn't eligible for contingency prizes where as Street class is. So if Kumho offered contingency prizes like they did last year, I would have run in street class for the chance to win some money. And given the results, my time was good enough for me to place 2nd in street class...which would have given me money if Kumho offered contingency prizes. Alternatively, i could have run Nitto NT05's or Bridgestone RE11's as they offer contingency prizes. Assuming I put down the same 1:41.503 that I did with the Kumho's, I could have gotten contingency money from them. However, the Kumho's are really inexpensive and the contingency money from the Bridgestones wouldn't have made up the price difference. And the Nitto's don't offer the tire size I wanted (245/255). --------------------

ah, so "street" for time attack is akin to "prepared" or "touring" in autocross terminology, it has nothing to do with tires...
i could understand the contingency issue w/ respect to most parts, since in "stock" you wouldn't be able to use aftermarket, but seems silly for the event sponsor (if that's who's doing it) preventing the tire manufacturers from offering contingency in whichever class(es) they choose... everyone buys tires, and even folks with "stock" cars sometimes want to buy higher performance tires. --------------------
