Yeah...how come you didn't go??? Your 1:33 might have been good for podium, although it was much hotter last weekend compared to Feb for the S2K Challenge #2.

Wanted to go, but I could only go one day, and sunday alone will not be enough practice time. Instead I went to SV event with a few friends. Last time when I pulled a 1.33 was much cooler, but at the same time, I have no front aero and was running a 60mm exhaust. Figure this time if I went I might have finish with a 1.34, good enough for 5th.

QUOTE (JackOlsen @ Jun 2 2009, 09:13 PM)
Great job, Maxrev.  Am I right in reading a 1:32 on street tires?  That is incredible.

I expect you'll keep getting faster.  Willow is an easy track to 'learn,' but not an easy track to really wring everything you can out of it.  Heartbraking to be so close to the MR2, though.  That kind of gap is the sort of thing a change in the breeze can produce.

I was on BFGoodrich g-force T/A KD street tires back for the 2004 OTC run.  They were pretty thoroughly used by the time we got to Willow -- we only had one set for the week (and one set to drive between the tracks).  I was probably on wider tires than you (255/315), and my car is probably lighter.  At the time, I was like 213 hp at the wheels, which I think is on par with an S2000.

Hey Jack,

Thanks. I agree with you completely on how its not a really easy track to really wring everything. Your turn 9 min. mph and commitment / line is awsome. I tried your line up omega but it really didn't work for the Evasive S2000.. I think the 911 has more yaw inertia to quickly turn on a spot then the s2000. I think I will work on it a bit more.

Few more pictures from Digital Horizon.

Well, I've got so much weight over the rear wheels (almost 64%) that I can throw the rear around on pretty short notice. Still, I think any RWD car should try to avoid smoothing out the Omega too much. The benefits to lap times come on the downhill side, IMO. I always want to get on the gas early and straighten out the second half of that combination.

Turn 9 took years to stop scaring me so much. No, I'm still pretty scared of it.

I love the thinking that led to this. He should really try to move it further forward, though, since he's creating a lot of his low pressure area now above his hood, which is counterproductive.

I post this with the full awareness that aerodynamic experts will roll their eyes.

Testing proved it was a bad idea to put it where I did -- it literally created enough of a vacuum to pull the rubber gasket out from under my hood.

I considered these possibilities:

Berk Technology S2000 and 135i videos are up!!!

banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif banana.gif

These two cars placed 4th and 5th, respectively, in S-RWD Class. The Berk S2K was ONLY 0.042 seconds behind 3rd place (a 300hp+ supercharged S2K) and the 135i was 0.391 behind 4th, which means the field was very competitive.

Both drivers, Charles Ng (MiataCharles_HK) and Jeff Tyler (S2Kretard) drove their asses off and makes for some very exciting video.

S2000 Video (note: I forgot to adjust the white balance so I apologize for the washed out video on certain sections of the track):

^ Ed, I hope you read my post about the cameras on TrackHQ. The washed out video has nothing to do with white balance, and everything to do with the metering mechanism. It is measuring the brightness of the center part of your picture and setting exposure based on it. Since the center part of your picture is aimed at your black dashboard, it is by default going to overexpose your picture. This isn't so bad when the sun is shining directly on the dashboard, but when Charles is driving down the back straight, the dashboard is shaded, so the camera has to use an even longer exposure to get the dashboard to be exposed properly. We don't care if the dashboard is pitch black, what we really care about is how the outside looks. But the camera has no idea how bright the outside looks because it is using center weighted metering, with the center on the black dashboard.

The solution: tilt your camera up so that the center of your picture is aimed out the windshield. Please. It will solve all your exposure problems. Sure you might not see the shifter so great, but I'd rather see where Charles is going than see every detail of your interior.

Great video, BTW. I guess now you've got a good benchmark for June 27?

Sorry, missed your post on TrackHQ...but I did find that my camera has a manual Brightness (Exposure Compensation) adjustment which I will test next time.

Yeah, next S2K Challenge on 6/27, if you can do faster than 1:33, you are FAST. biggrin.gif

About camera setups. One of the best camera mounts I have ever used is actually one of the most inexpensive. But you need a roll bar or something similar to clamp it to.
