GT Channel finally posted the video of the Spoon NSX-R GT vs. the FXMD (previously Factor-X) FX750 Unlimited Time Attack NSX.
Streets of Willow clockwise with the additional (old track) hairpin turn 3-4 (the new 'blowpass' is a simple 90* right-hand corner while the old track was more of a hairpin with a left hand corner leading into the 'esses' before the 'bowl'). Depending on the car/conditions/track, the old track is said to be 1-2 seconds slower than the newer 'blowpass' configuration that most clubs run. Spoon NSX-R GT: 1:25.902 - Tyler McQuarrie http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Mines-R...n-GT_188188.htm Mine's R35 GTR: 1:25.113 - Daijiro Yoshihara http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Mines-R...n-GT_188190.htm FXMD FX750 NSX: 1:23.X - Billy Johnson (Lap not listed in the videos) We did the 1:23 despite having significant problems engaging 3rd gear, brake bias being off, down on power (to break in the motor), and the terrible US-spec gear stack and final drive). This was filmed late last year where the car was still far from being sorted. Great watch! Interesting to see the nsx r gt in action. I wonder how much a car that well balanced could benefit from an actual GT wing?

Billy, do you think the Spoon car was capable of doing laps closer to what the Mine's car ran? It seemed like there were some places where there was oversteer and some places where it seemed like the driver was a little late on the throttle. Also, is it your opinion that the car would be significantly better with bigger tires?

The videos were more for entertainment purposes. None of the videos showed an outright 'fast lap' but more of an artsy video with clips from various laps. Even my in-car footage from video 2 that I posted, was of my first lap in the car, they did not show the in-car from the 2nd faster lap.
I dont think any of the drivers had the proper amount of seat time to give an accurate representation of the ability of the car. Sure they are professional drivers and went fast, but for entertainment purposes/focus of the weekend, it wasn't to find the outright best lap in each car. I can't say if the Spoon or Mines car would be faster because I didn't drive the Mines GTR, but the Spoon car was very well balanced, and was a good example of what a modern NSX supercar should be. Yes the Spoon NSX would have gone faster with better tires, or wider 235/275 setup. It had a small turbo that spooled early but choked off on the top end. It was easy to drive, well balanced, well built fun car. If it were in production, I would probably take it over a GT3. |

Nah, that's okay. My street NSX is going to be faster - just finishing up the FX750 race motor for it.

About time, I think I talked to you like a year ago when you had just pulled the engine. So a six pack, burger and fries won't pay for some pointers |

Thanks for posting this Billy. Very interesting stuff.
It would be fun to see your FXMD NSX and the C West S2000 at Streets. You both would have a great time switching off in each others cars as well Mark -------------------- FS: VOLK TE37 17X8.5 +40, SILVER, NONSTAGGERED http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=107&t=728212 |
