Homemade Intake Plate: Alternative to Aluminum

Homemade Intake Plate: Alternative to Aluminum
Here are some pictures of the lexan plate I made yesterday. Thought I would post some pictures. Its not finished as I need to re-bend one of the wings on the ride side for better alignment. I will be making a fiber glass "snorkel" to pass through the factory air guide and extend to the lower section of the bumper. This will be there to "feed" cooler air to the new plate. I was going to make a full snorkel similar to the spoon/muz, but after looking at the bottom of the hood(the angled cross section acts as the top of a snorkel) I decided that adding the snorkel would only restrict airflow as it passes over the radiator cradle....Hence the pinched area in almost all snorkels. I dont want to cut the hood for a larger snorkel, so I made this plate similar to the aluminum one that has been produced. However, being lexan it does not absorb as much heat as one made of metal. I left the plate clear for now, but I may paint it semi-gloss black to match the air box. I kind of like it clear too, it does not stand out so much. Sorry for such crappy/somewhat repetitive pictures. Wanted to show fitment.

I would recommend getting some extra screw-type removable rivets to secure right side down tightly. That way you'll have 2 separate fasten points for your plate to prevent any possible rotation or noise from driving vibrations.
