Thinking of getting some ITB's now instead of the Turbo kit as I would like to keep the S N/A..
Anyway, does anyone over this side of the water have ITB's at the moment and can they offer me some advice..

I think alot of people will say......... "stay away"

So please post away.. smile.gif

thanks,

Oisin

Expensive, little gains and mainly in torque.
Ask around the rally forums as the F20C appears in the odd Escort Mk2 etc.

A friend of mine is running Jenveys with an Emerald ECU in a rally cross car and she's putting out about 280bhp but it cost almost £5000 to get the whole fitted and running.

A quick search to locate again the thread re Foz01's car:

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=207155

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=281541

There are lots more threads - just search for Jenvey. However, Foz01 is the only person I know who has gone down this route.

Thanks guys,

I've read up on most of the threads on the US forums but they are region specific and do not take into account our changable weather etc..

I was hoping to get some chat going from people who have actually succeded in getting this mod done over here..

Anyway, I'll keep this bumped until I get what I'm looking for smile.gif

Thanks again guys,

Oisin

There was an identical thread to this a few weeks back...

I think Kartaphilos was looking into it, but like mosr people, he concluded it wasn't worht it.

I think mapping is the main issue.

Im pretty sure I posted in Kartaphilos thread the other week on this.

My understanding is that in the UK its impossible to get one mapped to a decent enough standard for it to be a daily driver.

I too am keen to stay NA, so im very tempted to go 2.2 stroker kit and go wild with the right I/H/E and then AEM EMS ecu correctly mapped and all that jazz... the only issue is you do all that and your at best 25-30 BHP up at peak but with a stronger midrange and a bit more torque.... Spending probably upwards of 5/6k for the priviledge which gets you one hell of a turbo/supercharger setup put in which would be significantly quicker.

Personally if you want to stay NA i'd just go something like J's Intake/ J's Header(Manifold)/ and then your choice of J's Exhaust(I'd go 60RS Dual in the hope you could sneak under some noise limits), Berk SportsCat and the J's Replacement ECU. That would give you pretty decent gains and stuff that you can resell easily if you so wish. However, that is a lot of cash to spend.

Bare in mind theres a dam good chance your no where near the cars limits, so consider spending the money on loads of tuition... and I literally mean a few thousand quids worth of top class training over a decent period of time...one to one at track days. That along with a stock car mechanically sound along with a good geo should result in probably 10 or so seconds coming off laptimes depending on your current skill level.

Then when you reach that limit look at handling + tyres + brakes. You'll never get much more out of the stock block so just find ways to keep it on song for longer.

Conanius,

They more I read about the practicalities of ITB's.. the more I think I should stay away..

I currently have on order, just waiting for all to arrive.
ASM 70mm SS exhaust
Toda Torquie-qun Header
Not sure what TP to get or where to get one..
4-puck clutch and lightend fly wheel from Competion Clutches.

So i need to pick up an AMS ECU, Decent Intake, I currently have the K&N FIPK.. And probably some sort of Stroker kit. I have access to Toda stuff at pretty good prices, so I'll see what they have to offer..

Any suggestions what I should look at from Toda??

If you can afford it most of it. You can't get much better quality stuff just a bit pricey. Manifold is particularly good.

Is it your daily driver??
I need something , i can jump into, hit that lovely red start button and..... actually get the thing to Start..

ITB's over here from what I've read is a waste of time. too difficult to KEEP set up correctly, re mapping etc is required on an ongoing basis depending on weather, altitude etc..??

my housemates both have cars with ITB's so I do feel left out (E39 M5 and E46 M3), nearly 1000 bhp on the drive and we are all a mere 25 years young !

Still intgerested in TB's just trying to find some more experiences while I save up the cash. More midrange will definitely be handy on events. I could really do with leaving in a higher gear for some corners. I'll post up a vid of harewood from the weekend - would have been really handy to have more torque at points on the hill.

Yep, and therein lies the problem. ITB's already fitted to a car have gone through extensive mapping, so you don't notice they are there. Adding them to a car afterwards is a bit of a bugger. THere are decisions on trumpet lenghts to consider, filtration (preferably none) and then the mapping is the tricky bit. Varying ambinet conditions play havoc, so you need someone who really knows their stuff to map the fuelling.

iagree.gif regarding basic N/A and weight saving.

I'm happy with my setup though not the most powerful.

I asked my mate about ITB's today, i asked him about the weather and he said its not a problem if mapped correctly and he didnt rate the filteration covers on them.

I dont know alot about them other than they are good for midrange and sound awesome.

Ask around the rally forums as the F20C appears in the odd Escort Mk2 etc.

And Mark 1 Escorts...

Yuk Hodgson, a well known Yorkshire rallyist runs an F20C in his Mk1 Escort - he's quite friendly in my experience. He sees over 280 rwhp in his Escort - he says over because the dynohe was running on topped out @ 280...

As far as I know it has been reliable...

www.yukspeed.com

Incidentally, my mate runs ITB's with an Emerald ECU on his Skoda Felicia rally car (1.4 litre, 8v ohv, standard internals except for a little lightening and balancing, 120 bhp @7K rpm) and it is reliable, a little cranky when cold and, for what it is quite quick...

Mase mapped ITB's on my Integra type R, was fun but for the money then only really consider when you have already done Manifold and Exhaust and probably already got an AEM or similar ECU on the car. It is surprising what gains can be had on a standard car with an aftermarket ECU alone.
