What is interesting is that I am pretty damn sure that opening either door disables the auto relock feature on my MY04.

I just went out and tested it. If I unlock the door using the remote, the door re-locks itself in 30 seconds. If I open the passenger side, the auto re-lock is disabled. This regardless of whether I unlock just teh driver's door or also the passenger door. Of course, I'm unlocking both to test the passenger door. I bought the car new in '02, and there's nothing non-stock about the keys/keyless entry. I don't have mu manual handy to check. JonasM --------------------

For anyone still wondering what the auto locking feature is for.
Lets say you lock your car with the remote, toss the remote in your pocket or purse for the women...and with your hands full of groceries the pressure on your pocket or purse hits the unlock button, car opens....you don't know and continue walking out of remote range. Unless the car door is opened the system automatically re-locks the door after a number of seconds. Same applies if you park your car on a street close to where you live...if you accidentally hit the remote while sleeping on the couch after too much alcohol with your keys in your pocket...you could inadvertently unlock your car at any time from your house and never know it. Auto re-lock feature is not something you want to disable. If you have the car door open and leave your keys in the car the system won't auto-lock in that situation anyway. You have to have the car locked, remotely unlock it and then NOT open the door for autolock to work. The scenario the OP described is about the only way you can accidentally lock your keys in the S2000 with a working remote. There are no power door lock switches in the S2000 and unless your remote is broken no one locks their car by manually locking each door lock from the inside. I think I get it now. I think the OP means HIS PARTICULAR car doesn't recognize the passenger door opening. BTW, I agree with the reasoning for the auto relock. A couple months after buying my car, I was climbing a ladder with the keys in my pocket to put up some Xmas lights. The keys were in such a position that each time I stepped up the ladder with my left leg, the horn would beep as the lock button pressed. It is very easy to inadvertantly unlock a car with this style of remote fob.

I locked my keys in my trunk recently. I got a coat hanger and stretched it out but kept it arched a bit. It was a real thick metal coat hanger, not a thin wire one. The end was twisted where the end meets the neck and twists around it to connect the hanger. This part is really strong and doesnt bend easily. I have this tiny hole in my roof over my passanger seat. I was able to slide the hanger in without stretching the hold too much and latched it on the lock then pulled really hard. Took 10 minutes but I got the door open and popped the trunk to get my keys. Soo lucky. I was so pissed when it happened then sooo happy when I got them back.
Whoever said that the lock latches on the doors are not easily hooked thats definitely not true. They are very easily hooked. The hook has to be mostly straight though with only a slight curve. Get the right angle and you can pull the lock open easy if you yank it really fast. This was the first time I ever tried anything like this and it took 5-10 minutes and I was back in my car so it would have to be a really fast process for an experienced criminal.
