Hey everybody, I am a former euro tuner gone japanese =)

I'm only 20 and I've already had 2 BMWs and an Audi, and my last car (one of the bimmers) got destroyed by some crazy lady that hit it in a parking lot. A buddy of mine had an S2000 and I REALLY liked it. This was an opportunity to get into one, and I did just that.

Picked up a clean 2000 Grand Prix white with Tein RA coilovers, AP2 rear bumper, AP2 soft top, AP2 Tail lights, JDM head lights, Vision Corsa Race seats with Bride rails, and 18" Work VS-TX wheels. I'll try and get some pics up eventually.

The car handles absolutely amazing, and turns heads at the stop lights. Its a little more tail happy than my M3 was, but it kills it in the sharp corners!

I'm sure I'll have lots of fun in it and hope to learn a lot about these cars from this forum.

Welcome and congrats! I just bought my 06 Silverstone AP2 about two weeks ago. I was just like you...I had a B5 A4 and 2000 BMW M-coupe.

Nice! I also have a 00. Just remember to check the oil very often and drive carefully. smile.gif

Here are some things that you might want to know about the early S2Ks:
1. They don't have the updated oil jet banjo bolts with 4 holes instead of 2. The new banjo bolts provide 30% extra oil flow.
2. Many AP1 retainers have cracked and could cause a valve to drop into the cylinder. Most of them are from previous owners mechanically over revving it though.
3. Make sure spark plugs are torqued to the updated recommended spec of 18 ft-lb
4. Some users have had various rear end noises from the spindle nuts not being torqued to the new recommended spec of 220 ft-lb

That's it on the top of my head. I don't mean to scare you, nor is a great way to welcome you, but I've been concerned about these issues myself, and I just want the best for new owners like you. smile.gif

Happy driving hello.gif

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! The car has been a blast and I've only had it a couple of days. The coilovers and seats make it a little harder to live with day to day than my bimmer, but MAN this thing can take corners in its sleep!

I havent had much time to take good pictures of the car, but I took a few with my phone when I was originally looking it at, so I'll post them up for now. I'll get some good ones with a DSLR one of these days.

Nah, don't worry about scaring me. I would rather know what to look for than wonder why the car is making wierd noises, etc.

The car doesnt seem to eat oil like my BMW, but I still check it frequently to be sure. On the topic of valves. I notice that the car seems to tick a little bit louder than I would expect. I am taking the car in tomorrow to have the valves adjusted, and check for bad retainers, etc. Anything else I should have done while the car is in the shop?

Don't even bother checking for bad retainers.

Just go ahead and buy 8 x Retainers, and 16x Cotters and whilst your getting the valve clearances done, upgrade the intake side too.

The car also does not like to be lowered more than once.

If you change the height more than once, it will usually start vibrating earlier. Due to an inherent design flaw in the CV buckets and the angle of the drive shafts changing. The fixes are easy...best check the "under the hood" section of this forum.

p.s Jealous of your White and red s2k...damn hot. Get a white hardtop, and an ASM/Amuse front bar and it will be the sex

Where should I buy the parts? Should I upgrade to AP2 retainers, and if so is there anything special that needs to be done to get them to fit right?

Nope, nothing special needs to be done. Just replace the retainers with the AP2 retainers. I just bought some last week from here: http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/product.ph...7&cat=53&page=1

Congrats on your S2K, looks great! I noticed that your power socket became loose and is hanging out. I had the same problem. Heres a link to a thread that will help you fix your problem.

Wow thanks Stvn2k! I happened to have the exact same problem and even though I've removed that panel before, I never thought about reaching in for that power socket lol
