I have the classic symptom of clutch buzz upon deceleration, but mine seems to occur only at 2200 rpms . Most posts I've read about this seem to have it occuring higher up in the rpms. The vibration I have is only on decleration, pretty much in any gear, off throttle. Acceleration does not produce the noise. The vibration lasts for a few hundred rpms. If I hit the throttle it goes away. Would this still be clutch buzz ?, if it is I'm perfectly fine with it, I just don't want it to be something else like bearings or CV's. Any info would be helpful. thanks very much.

hmm it could. 2200 is pretty low rpm i have never heard it this low. have you experienced clutch buzz?

are you sure its not coming from your shifter area or something loose in the engine bay such as the heat shield or an exhaust part?

Yeah I realize it is a lower rpm than others report, but the symptoms sound the exact same. I can't think of anything that is loose, I guess it could be an exhaust part, but who knows. I don't believe it is the shifter at all. I get a buzz at 2200 rpms for a couple hundred rpms only, happens on deceleration with foot off the accelerator, if I hit the gas pedal it goes away. Perfectly smooth above 2200 and below 2000. thanks for the reply.

yes it always does it, it is 100 percent repeatable. If it is coming from the tranny it doesn't come through the shifter, so I'm not sure. If I drive at 2200 rpms with steady pressure on the gas pedal it won't do it, but let off the gas and it starts. I've only owned the car for 3 weeks, 55,000 miles on it , with the original clutch. Engine, clutch, and tranny run like mint/new condition, no issues to report at all other than this small items.

yeah I've basically gone through and done a full maintenance replacement since getting the car 3 weeks ago. New tranny fluid, new diff fluid, new coolant, a couple short oil change intervals with Honda oil filter, new pcv, fresh brake fluid, fresh clutch fluid, slave cylinder lube, shift fork lube, shifter lube, valve adjustment, new brake pads, new battery, new spark plugs, clutch pedal adjustment, fuel injector treatments, new air and cabin filters, convertible seal lube and latch adjustments, new windshield. The car runs like new other than this one small area.

well it doesn't bother me the least bit, I just wanted to check to make sure it isn't some other issue.

Thanks for all the replies.

the s2k as im sure youve heard makes alot of unique and weird noises. most of them being ok. its just the nature of the beast and something you may have missed with the thrill of a new car, and as you drive it you will start to get picky and hear these. thumbsup.gif heart.gif

yup that's it, I've repaired lots of little rattles, air leaks and engine items since getting the car. The car is much smoother and quieter now than when I first got it that I notice other little things that I probably didn't notice at first. As long as it doesn't impact longevity it's all fine with me. thanks.

TP = Test Pipe, but I don't know why anyone would suspect this for a decelleration buzz.

there've been numerous cases when tp caused buzz due to it hitting the metal. but anyway, shouldn't be the prob for you in this case.

yeah I don't have a TP, it's all stock. Thanks for the replies on this, it's likely the clutch then if others have had it.

I had the car at my Honda dealer a few weeks ago getting an alignment done on it. When I went to pick up the car the service advisor said everything checked out well, all of the suspension parts are in good shape. But the mechanic noted an odd vibration in the car, he had no idea where it was coming from or what could be causing it. They recomended that I bring the car back to them in the spring and have them check it over to see what they can find with it. I was very surprised they didn't recognize the vibration, the car runs silky smooth in all respects other than this one tiny deceleration zone. I couldn't have done any worse if I had taken my car to a GM dealer, since the Honda dealer obviously didn't know anything about S2000s. smile.gif

I have similar buzzing sound in the lower RPM's but mine is mostly from 2500 - 3500 RPM, no matter what the gear, although 5th and 6th arent as noticable than the lower gears. I just assumed this was the clutch buzz, as I couldn't think of anything else it could be.

I have an 2001 model, and it does the same thing.

Clutch buzz when decellerating between 4k - 3k, and also between 2,5k and 2k. It's normal IMO, but it can be annoying at times.

Something else i've been wondering about this clutch buzz... does it hurt the car in some way? I always try to make it stop by slightly pressing the gas pedal (because i feel like i'm stressing the clutch otherwise). Am i simply too worried about it maybe?
