Rear axle clicking
I've fell victim to the dreaded rear wheel click when I start fwd or reverse. It has already been in the shop once, and 40 dollars later they told that they think it is the inner CV joint needing to be regreased. There were several bolts that connect the rear suspension to the frame that were not torqued to spec as well.
Now to the meat of the thread:
I called American Honda at 1 800 999 1009 and spoke to a gentleman named Mike who told me that there is a newsletter dated December 2001 with a reference
# 011217 that addresses the clicking issue. It basically talks about retorquing the axle nut. The point to my rambling is that EVERYONE that has a clicking problem needs to call this number and make them start a case file on your car.
It doesn't matter if it is in or out of warranty!! CALL This is the only way to get them to budge. My case is being reviewed for a possible good will service call meaning free!! As my car has 52,000 miles and is out of normal warranty.
If Honda gets enough pressure they will have to admit there is a problem, and if they do come out with a recall they will reimburse the people that have paid to remedy this problem. So if you do go in make sure to save your receipts in hopes of getting reimbursed.

Rick...you know I have this going on as well. I'll be sure to contact that number. Mine's going into the shop (again!) this Friday for the clicking rear.
Just as an FYI, if you had not already poked around for it, check out this other running recent link related to clicking rears
See ya Wednesday!

I had the same problem with the axel nut a while back and my dealership found a bulletin on it and retourqued it for free. It happened again and they replaced it and ever since then I have had no problem.
But I can still call Honda......

I just want to say that if you've had this problem and taken it to your dealer and it didn't get fixed it's not there fault so please don't give a nasty report on the dealer. I know the system they have for fixing problems like this and it's not easy to use. A mechanic wouldn't know about the bulliten unless he was looking for whatthe specific problem is. Most mechanics do not know what would be causing this and therefore have no way of looking up how to fix it. You'd be suprised just how much just one nasty service report affects a mechanic. If you know the fix, tell the mechanic so he can look it up and fix it.
