DWI law question in NY
what is the legal limit in NY...is it a no tolerance law or is it ok to drive home from a friends bbq with a beer or two left in your system.

NY has more stringent laws than many other states. In many other states the legal limit is .08 or higher for what those states call "driving under the influence" . In New York anything above a .05 and below a .08 will get you a "Driving While Ability Impaired By Alcohol;" .08 or higher is "Driving While Intoxicated by Alcohol."
HOWEVER there are many finer details, here are a couple: the limits vary(lower) for commercial vehicles;there is zero tolerance (i.e. -- any amount of alcohol gets you in trouble) for someone under the age of 21 at the time of the incident.

i see...so its not zero tolerance for people who are over 21...how many drinks is .05 roughly?
BUT all that will never be done because DWI is too big a business.

New York DWI Defined. To determine whether you're legally driving while intoxicated, the state uses your blood alcohol concentration or BAC. Law enforcement will charge you with DWI if your BAC is: 0.08% and you're 21 years old or older.
