The facebook comments are hilarious

In all seriousness:

The professor had something to say about the formulation and its relevance as a gun oil. “I don’t see any sign of other additives such as antioxidants or corrosion inhibitors. Since the unsaturation in these oils, especially linoleate residues, can lead to their oligomerization with exposure to oxygen and light, use on weapons could lead to formation of solid residues (gum) with time. The more UV and oxygen, the more the oil will degrade.”

Hoppes 9 for everything. Maybe I'm a brand whore, or maybe I just like the smell.

I've liked Italian Gun Grease - no smell, and supposedly better for the environment - if you can find it.

Bought a 2.5 gallon of Hoppe's military grade stuff years ago, still working my way through it.

What am I missing here? A clean firearm (thank you Staff Sargeant Macias USMC) needs very little oil for proper operation. You don't want to use too much. So what is wrong with basic over the counter gun oil? Has always worked for me.

Lubing is the easy part - a pinhead sized drop of Hoppes 9 lubricating oil on the slide rail, rub it with your finger and wipe off the excess. Hoppes 9 is over the counter oil, nothing special about it.

Cleaning is the tough part, especially if you're obsessive about it like me...and the smell of Hoppes Solvent can clear your sinuses.

A federal agency armorers, that I know, when using a ultra sonic cleaner, use a well known green cleaner that is very simple. I use an orange cleaner/degreaser from OSH as some friends in the jewlery business say it will not harm metals/gems and is very effective. I have found that to be true. 5-10 minutes in the heated bath and the firearm comes out insanely clean. Reassemble and lube. Done.

Another choice for firearm cleaning, preservation. The sonic cleaning does work well on firearms.............. also works for restoring car parts to near new condition.
