Default New guy intro

Hey all,

I just had my new (to me) S delivered on Friday from California and figured I would introduce myself. I am coming from a 2016 BMW M3 so this is a significant change but I am glad of it. I really like this car and how it runs on the road.

Next steps are to complete some maintenance to level set the car and ensure it is running in top form. Here is what I am planning to do:

Oil change
Transmission fluid change
Diff fluid change
Intake filter change (it is filthy)
Cabin filter change (even more filthy, ew...)
Replace the rear tires (the Cali dealer had some horrible Evergreen tires installed, the fronts are Michelin PSS's so that is what is going ont he back to match)

I am also considering picking up a new TCT from Billman to install as a preventive measure.

I will also need to get a small tear in the top addressed (the normal place behind the passenger). The dealer had it stitched closed but the patch they installed on the inside is crap. I think I just need to get a good patch installed.

Here is a first picture. The paint needs attention so I will take some good photos after I get to that.

Welcome! That's a good starting maintenance list!

Just curious, why the change from the M3?

Thanks!

The M3 was an amazing car but it was just too much. With the kind of power it would deliver if you wrapped out 3rd gear you were going to federal, pound-me-in-the-a$$, prison. I just did not feel like I was using it to its potential either so I opted to sell it while I could. I did Euro Delivery on it so the price I paid was pretty low making selling it early a non-money losing transaction. Lastly, the new ST3 taxes were going to make the car tab renewal around $900 which stung too.

I like the S because it doesn't pretend to be anything else besides a very well designed and made toy. I have a Subaru for when the weather is crappy so having a toy made sense.

Congrats on the purchase! What a huge change coming from an M3. I don't think you will be disappointed. Enjoy

Thanks! It is a big change but I honestly prefer the S. The M was amazing in its own right but just did not suit me. Plus I never bonded with it. I am hoping I will feel different about the S and so far so good.

I just spent 3 hours getting to know her from below. It looks like the dealership changed the fluids but I couldn't be sure what they used. The plugs on the differential were swapped as well (the magnetic plug was in the fill port location).

Would that apply to a 2008? Since it is basically the last year they were made I would assume they would have done that at the factory.

Just did this on Friday. I borrowed a buddies tools and it was super easy to do! Thanks for the heads up.

I also installed the Modifry DCI to make the dash controls work on the JVC KD-AVX77 head unit that came with the car. Man was that a pain in the a$$!! There is ZERO room behind the head unit in these cars. I have no idea how they got that head unit in there originally but I had a helluva time getting it back in. I ended up cutting off the extraneous RCA's that were coming out of the back of the unit and also removing the power line filter inductor to get the unit to fit back in. The good news is, my dash controls now work!!

Now I am waiting on Billman to send out my new Timing Chain Tensioner and I will get that installed as well.
