Default AP2 front license plate hole plugs issue

After a long winter going over all the things needing attention I am down to one small issue. The person I bought this MY02 from had an in painted ap2 bumper on the car. I just got it painted and installed a lip. I went to put the plugs in that came with the car (OEM Honda bumper and plugs) and the plugs "prongs" are much smaller then the holes in the bumper. I looked on Majestic site to see if I was missing some inserts or backers but doesn't show any. I went to the local Honda parts dept. and explained my dilemma and they were clueless i.e. looked up the same parts schematic as shown on Majestic. What am I missing here?

There are a pair of "captured nuts" that are mounted to the inside of the OEM bumper cover that will accept the plate bracket bolts or plugs, yours may be missing as they do have a tendency to break loose from the cover. You could just use 4 SS nuts and push them onto the plugs if the cover is off the car.

Good idea, I can get some plastic nuts from the local Menards. The OEM stuff must have feel off from being driven before paint/install.
Have another quick question you may know. I need a Honda emblem for the hood so I was thinking of changing to black or the red JDM (car is GP White). What is the best way to remove the trunk emblem ? The back of the post (in trunk) have a cap of some sort, I assume a "Chinese finger" device :-) .

I have not removed an OEM trunk emblem but just looked at the new one I have laying around, looks like pressure grip pins with top and bottom adhesive tape. Cut the tape with fishing string or dental floss and push the pins from the backside. Should pop right out.

I have removed a JDM badge with full adhesive, not a fun experience but saved the badge!

Good luck!

Go to Ricks Accessories site and look up the directions for his emblems. It'll tell you the best and easiest ways to get the OEM one's off.
