Thanks guys, happy to be a member

Powered up the deck last night in the garage so took some pics this morning. The flip down face clears the bezels so now just gotta work on pulling the bezel "behind" the dash and doing the final touch up work.

NO WAY I would ever consider building another bezel - it's way too difficult and is custom to each vehicle. Too many parameters.

If you are doing the install yourself it's cool but paying someone is going to be bank for sure $$$$ - I must have over 40 hours into this already!!!

It is always more work than planned on. Its part of the electronic junkie badge mantra.

UPDATE: 4/27/06

We powered up the deck last night and the unit sounds / looks really good. I found that by tilting the faceplate slightly (it's adjustable onscreen), the view is perfect.

One problem I immediately noticed is that my V-1 has be moved. It was mounted just over my right shoulder with our custom stealth setup.

See the V-1 thread here:

With the double din deck in the V-1's sensor path, it's picking up the touchscreen electronic field emitted on the screen and making the radar go off like crazy! So we had to remove the V-1 from the rear glove box. I'll probably end up mounting it hidden behind the rear view mirror or maybe creating a custom enclosure for it on the dash. I loved my old V-1 location - oh wellz

Going to wire up the PAC-ECL unit this weekend so I can regain my remote radio controls back. Also going to get a wireless remote for the passenger and do final test fitting of the deck.

The goal was to pull the unit back so it's recessed behind the dashboard surface. The wiring is kinda in the way so going to rewire and extend some of the RCA's a bit to create more space.

Still debating if I want to paint the bezel Rio Yellow or matt black - suggestions?

More pics to come,
rick

I'm thinking Spa. It would even out the dash.

Update: 5/22/06

Believe it or not I have not touched my Eclipse unit or dash bezel yet - been way too busy with moving to our new house. My custom fiberglass subwoofer box is kinda in mid-limbo as well - my plan is to tackle it after the Memorial Day weekend.

But this weekend I did start another project by chance. I've already dynamatted my floor boards but have been wanting to do the door panels too. Since I acquired some new Focal K2P speakers to replace my MB Quarts, I decided this would be a good time to do both

Amazingly the Dynamat really sealed up the doors nicely since road noise is dramatically less and my doors "thud" nicely like a european car now!

Enjoy,
rick

I just read this thread for the first time and it's great. I noticed in the picture of your amp rack that you are running one of the new Alpine PDX amps. When I get around to buying all the equipment for my stereo install I'm definitely thinking I'll buy one of the PDX amps due to their size.

Just out of curiousity, which of the PDX amps is that? Also, if you've used PDX amps before or have hooked this one up what are your thoughts so far? Also, can you post some more pictures of your amp rack? I would like to install my amp over the gas tank as well.

MikeyC: The PDX amp I'm running is 4 channels, 150 watts per channel.

I have 2 channels driving my Focal K2P and the other pair bridge mono to drive a single JL Audio 10w6v2 in a custom fiberglass box

More pics will come since the car is in the paint shop right now.

thanks,
rick

Awesome! Thanks for the info Rick. This is very similar to the setup I would like to put in my car (focals up front, JL sub in the back, Alpine PDX 4*150 amp). I can't wait to hear your thoughts on how it all sounds.
