Default My log of racersteve heat treated OEM gears

Late last season my stock transmission finally went out. I did a launch running 27psi and busted second gear. I was not running boost by gear. I found a used Ap1 trans for $200 and i have always wanted to try racersteves heat treated gears because they have worked very well on the k series and b series transmissions from what I have read. I will also add a Tilton clutch release control valve for added safety. I do believe that this will be a very good solution for guys that want to run between 600-800 HP without spending a lot of money on a transmission. The Transmission has already been taken apart and I have already sent out the gears. I am getting all of the disassembly done professionally and I will be replacing all of the bearings to ensure all variables are out of the way. The gears look great. I will try to keep this thread updated as much as possible. I may not have many more updates until March because I have a lot going on at the moment and i may not have time to swap the trans. For those that are wondering I am making close to 700WHP as of last season but i have not gotten on a dyno as of yet. I plan to dyno it just for this thread. I will definitely be making more power this season.

Thanks

So only $200US dollars? Man that seems cheap!

I wonder if this is an actual solution for turbo cars up to 700hp.

The issue has always been more then just the gears themselves. The stock case flexes at high power levels. Even the strongest gear will grenade when it hits the wrong stuff. Ppg gears are a great reference. Bulletproof gears that go into the oem case. And they still grenade :/

Prolly a different transmission it's why people starting putting supra and t56 transmissions I'm the car.

I'm in the same boat though with less power. Broke mine with a pedestrian 450whp. Broke in 2nd gear at wot.

I am waiting to see how the gear treatment goes. Maybe it can buy time. I'd do it for 200 bucks if that's the case. I plan on buying a used ap2 trans and having it freshened up before installing.

Im selling my PPG geared transmission with clutch, FYI... no issues at 760hp, but im ready to jump up to 850-900 and i dont want to find its limits so the t56 is inevitable

I know the nissan pulsar gti-r gearboxes also struggles with high hp setups. They use braces to tighten the gearbox casing to reduce flexing.

if the s2000 gearbox flexes too much under high load, causing the gears to get out of line, this might be a cheap and good option to try out.

I know many people swap to the v160 or v161 transmissions. It's become a sort of a hype in the s2000 community, because it works. These gearboxes are pretty much bulletproof, but they are scarce and prices are skyrocketing.
There are other good gearboxes that have proven to be bulletproof and are way cheaper too, but there are no bolt on kits available like the full race adapters etc.

Getrag 420G is used in BMW M3 e46, 540i e.o. These gearboxes work great on the turbo m3's with 1000hp setups.

Some are a bit expensive, but a little bit of good ebay searching might help:

And ofcourse there is always this beauty :
