shift boot/knob problem

Default shift boot/knob problem

Hello All,

I am new to the s2k community. I have just transitioned from the rx7 community after 10yrs. I just picked up a 06 red s2k and have this small problem with my shift boot/knob already. I believe I still have the stock shift knob and it won't screw all the way down tight till the gears number read correctly. The shift boot also keeps sagging down and exposing the shaft. How can I resolve both issues? Pictures attached.

For me, it only took about 5min or so to fix the shift boot, but not sure about the shift knob problem you have...

Is there a lock nut in that second pic? The boot needs to come up and the locking nut tightens the knob up to the numbers lining up.

There isnt a lock nut. Can I just pick one up from home depot?

A missing lock nut won't prevent the knob from screwing down though. Have you checked the thread on both the knob and the shifter for damage/Loctite/etc?

Yeah looks like you are missing the locknut under the knob. That is what's adjusted up to align the shift pattern. Need a 10mmx1.5 flange nut. Not sure if they'd be the same dimensions as an oem Honda one but probably close enough.

Thanks guys, I'll just swing by the local dealership. I'll be sure to do that shift boot mod that looks really clean.

Better idea, buy a weighted Countersunk knob from Moddiction or similar, kill 2 birds with 1 stone, and make the shift better
