AP2 redline
Is it safe to raise the redline in an AP2 with a tune or would I need a valvetrain?
My friend is interested in purchasing an S2k, but he can't decide on AP1/AP2 so we went for a couple of test runs. He really likes the power of the AP2, but loves the 9k redline. However, the AP2 does rev up pretty quick and it does feel like it should go more. He noticed how fast/frequent I was shifting and said the gears felt shorter than his b16 tranny in his fully built GSR (12.2 1/4). I am content with the 8k redline because I am used to it, but then again, my dyno baseline plot clearly shows that my AP2 wants to make more power on the graph (it doesn't peak at redline). What do you fellow S2kers think?

for the 06 you can get the Hondata Reflash which raises the redline to 8600 rpms. and engauges vtec earlier which will give you more broader power band.
since like me you also have an 04 the only options are either an 00/01 ap1 ecu or AEM EMS.
8600 rpms is the absolute highest you should go with all attention to longevity and safety in mind. Some people take theirs to 9k but the longer stroke doesnt appreciate the sidewal loading at that high rpm. The valve train will take 9k better than the ap1 valvetrain.

Explain?? If I am understanding right the AP2 valvetrain can withstand wear better than an AP1 but you should never exceed 8600 rpm's????

Its the block which takes the increased wear after 8600 rpms not the valve train. Keep in mind the F22 is stroked so the piston speed is faster than the ap1 @ the same rpm.

So would it absolutly kill the car to hit rev limiter at 8600? Like if I were to get the reflash would I be better off shifiting at 8500 instead?
