Default Oil consumption

Was chugging synthetic oil between 800-1300 miles a quart. Switched to castrol gtx high mileage 10w40 synthetic blend. 200 miles since the oil change haven't burned a drop yet. Just wanted to share.

I was doing 5k mile OCI so I figure I rather use cheaper oil if I'm going to pour 9 quarts of oil per OCI. I'm still going to do 5k OCI, I don't think it'll be a problem with a synthetic blend.

What grade and type of synthetic were you using?

I was using Castrol Edge high mileage full synthetic 10w30 Before that Castrol edge full synthetic 0w-40, before that Castrol Edge 10w-30 Extended Protection, before that Castrol Edge 10w30, before that Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30(bad idea, it caused TCT chatter, my oil pan started leaking, and my oil consumption was the worst by far, it also coincided with my vtec solenoid top plate to start leaking.) Before that 10w-30 Edge, which wasn't bad, around 1,500 miles per quart. Before that I switched to Amsoil, when I first got the car, before that, it was runny mostly on Castrol Edge 10w-30.

5,000 mile OCI's until it was sold to the guy that I got the car from, he used Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic blend, for about 4,000 miles, and I drove it to Miami from Tampa. For some reason synthetic blend doesn't burn as much, and Castrol Edge 10w-30.

Cool. Be interesting to see how the oil holds up. I would think that it won't consume much for a while...and then as the oil ages, the consumption will pick back up rapidly as the oil shears down.

At 1q in 800 miles id say your engine has some issues, so wait for another 1000 miles or so before reporting back on the new oil consumption. 200 miles isn't going to tell you anything as its within error on your dipstick. Also in my experience, the first 1000-1500 miles of new oil always last longer then the second 1000-1500 miles so its better to take the average of the entire change interval. But you should get an idea after the first 2000 miles of where your going to end up with the new oil.

Then again I'm at 155,000 miles. Probably just old rings and slightly ovaled bores as I've changed the oil seals and the car has perfect compression and no more than 8% valve leakage.
