The Q300 is loud no matter what you have it paired with. With an HFC or TP, it's unliveable in my opinion.

Watching my wife put her fingers in her ears when the Q300 was on the car was more than I needed to get rid of the exhaust. Ear plugs are recommended and I know guys who've resorted to them with the Q300. My neighbors were not happy with the Q300 either. Very popular at the local high school, though.

somewhere in this forum there is an incredibly detailed, long, post outlining every possible after market exhaust available, how it sounds, its cost (at the time of the posting), etc. A quick search should turn this up and then you can ask more specific questions.

For what you are looking for I would say HKS or Tanabe Medalion Touring exhaust. Both sound great! I think HKS is best sounding over all however the Tanabe sounds great and has a better look and quality.
Let me know if I can help with anything. We almost always have both of those in stock. Berk makes great test pipes and high flow cats to compliment the exhaust!

For sound, it would make the exhaust sound different than if there were just the stock cat in place. Usually louder/more aggressive. I've only ever run catless so I can't speak personally to what the differences are.
In terms of performance, you could pair an HFC or test pipe with a tune to lower your VTEC engagement window to gain a good amount of HP/TQ in the midrange.
