Greetings Drivers!
Round 1 of the 2017 Maxxis Tires S2K Challenge is done and what a day! Strong competition is showing in every class with new challengers appearing and fast times dropping!
Stock class showed the return of Devin Chen showing his stuff in 1st place with a 1:43.901 followed closely by challenge newcomer and HFF convert Yukio Kishimoto with a 1:44.909. Awesome driving guys!
Street class is shaping up to be a hotly contested class already with 5 drivers daring to show their wingless skills at the fastest track in the west. Newcomer William Jang came out swinging with an absolutely blistering 1:35.996 in green 2 setting the bar high. 2nd place in street went to challenge veteran Fernando Muga with a 1:39.909 set in the headwinds of green 3. 3rd place goes to Erik Kwon with a 1:43.395 set in purple 3 having moved up from Stock class. 4th place goes to Jesse Jia with a 1:46.085 set in black 3. Finally 5th place goes to Kevin Tarson with a 1:50.606 set in Blue 3 and his first ever track day (brave soul tackling WSIR for his first ever day!). The strong session 3 times show that everyone kept getting faster as the day went on even though the wind was picking up. This is going to be a class to watch this year.
Mod class quickly established its going to be the most hotly contested this year with 6 competitors, many of whom are returning champions from previous years. Coming out in force in red 2 last years street champion Richard Huang dropped a smoking time of 1:32.991 showing everyone how a sideways entry to turn 9 is the fastest way. Closely on his heels is mod class veteran driver Fabian Lacey with a 1:33.450 also set in the still air of red 2. 3rd place went to mod class veteran Ryan Delgrosso with a 1:34.667 again set in red 2. 4th place was claimed by challenge newcomer (but certainly veteran driver) Kevin Chu with a 1:35.074 and 5th place goes to mod class veteran Jason Woan with a 1:35.723 set in green 3. Our 6th driver Cevin Burke suffered a mechanical problem preventing him from putting up an official time but series sponsor and all-around miracle workers Rockstar Garage is sure to have him remedied in time for Chuckwalla! Awesome driving to everyone!
Super-Mod showed a lone competitor, challenge veteran Dustin Dessero throwing down a 1:31.064 in red 2. Awesome driving Dustin!
