Default Driver Restraint Installation Guide

This is a Schroff presentation in PDF form. What I found interesting, and the reason I'm posting, is the section on installation with photos and many examples of incorrect mounting from slide 32 through 57.

http://www.trackhq.com/forums/attach...stallation.pdf

This is the SFI 16.6 installation guide: http://www.sfifoundation.com/wp-cont...2006-05-12.pdf

Interestingly, the presentation thinks having all the mounts on the seat is safest because the belts are shortest.

Both SFI and FIA are now recommending 7-point (or 9-point) systems with two crotch belts and the center strap now labeled a negative-G strap to keep the belts in place during a rollover. The 9 point has a 2" shoulder strap for the forward head restraint (FHR, the current term for a HANS device) over a 3" shoulder strap. Otherwise they recommend the dog-bone shoulder strap with the 2" top for the FHR device and a 3" bottom.

They are also recommending 2" lap belts. The presentation has illustrations that show the 2" wide build rests better on the pelvis, would be more comfortable, and less likely to be out of position in a crash.

I don't have anything useful to add but that sounds really uncomfortable to be strapped down in so many places.

Done this multiple times. The tighter you are strapped in the better it feels.

You dont notice. My shoulder belts are always super super tight. If you are moving around even a little bit thats too much for me.

Agreed. Usually my shoulders will hurt a little Monday after a weekend at the track. I feel a lot more comfortable locked in place not having to brace myself mid corner.
