Default New Street class Tire sizes on OEM wheels

Hi all,

I am new to the forum as I am picking up a AP2 s2k this spring as I blew up my sti last year.

I have been doing a lot of reading of SCCA stock class setups, and everyone is favoring the Square setup on R-comps. Next year stock class is changing to street requiring street tires, or well not requiring until 2015 but this is how I would like to set up my car.

My question is running a grendron bar, is a square setup going to work with BFG Rivals, ZII, or R-11a's. I have not seen any postings of anyone running 245 street tires on OEM front wheels with a square setup. a 245 street tire on the 7" rim seems to be a drastic pinch and I know street tires have very different caricaturists than R-comps when pinched.

Right now I would really like to run Rivals square at 245, but I am on the fence as I have not heard if the 245 will fit on the Stock front wheel. Another option might be trying the ZII with a 235/255 F/R.

Thoughts?

a friend of mine runs 245s Z2s on his stock front wheels. He also ran 245 Hoosier R comps on 7" front wheels this year. I ran 225 Z2s on my 7" wheels. Both our S2000 are otherwise setup the same. We have traded co-driving each others cars, to be honest, I don't think his 245s were any better than my 225s.

A 245 street tire definitely fits on a 7" rim (OEM AP2 Front.) I run Z1's on mine, and many others do too, and it is proven to be quite fast. How much faster, if faster at all, compared to a 225, I do not know and I don't think it's been tested by anyone on this forum. I run a 255 in the back.

A gendron bar will provide more than enough range of adjustability to suit to your preferred balance. I would suggest not running the monster hollow bar, get the smaller bar so that your range of adjustment is narrower yet more precise. The 4 to 6 settings on the monster bar with stock springs, wheels and tires is more bar than you will need.

The hot setup on stock class AP2 CR's for many years has been 275x4 Hoosier A6. I have ran this setup and won Solo National Championship heats the past 2 years in B-Stock. There is debate as to whether or not the 275/40 or 275/35 is quicker on most courses. In my experience it is course dependent but a good bet is to run the 275/40. Note that a couple of non-CR AP2's run 275/40x4 here locally and are quite fast (the fastest non-CR AP2's we have.)

Personally I would suggest going 245 F/ 255 R and start with one of the bigger Gendron Bars at the 3/6 setting and tune from there.

I would suggest the same, but with the caviot of using Z2s. The Hankook RS-3 and Rival won't like that much of a pinch up front.

On our C-Street BRZ, we run a 215 RS-3 and a 235 Z2 on a 7" wheel. The car doesn't need a bigger tire like the s2000.

^^ referencing to both.

i ran the exact same set up Nick mentioned. i went with the Z2 because as Viper suggested they have a stiffer side wall. I had my Gendron bar set at 3/6 on the softer side. it felt pushy on entry but was very easy to handle. i also tried using the second softer setting and while it handled and turn in was great, it lost its stability in the slaloms. although i think if i had more time with that set up i might have been able to go faster. see my sig line. i documented my entire starting year exactly the same situation you have found yourself in. There are also some videos in there.

Ok so from what I am reading the 245 on the Z2 will fit and work well on the 7" front wheel. and a 245/255 setup would be good with I think I will lean toward the normal solid 1.25 bar Gendron bar with the street tires.

Now for an additional question the ZII's come in 245/40 and 245/45. Which of these two are you running, and or recommending?

Thanks iamxpL,

I read through your build and it was very informative and almost exactly the path I have planned for the next few years. I guess all my forum research has helped, but I love that you have all ready done everything and listed it in one place.

I do have one question for you, or anyone. What kind of an alignment would be a good Base for the 245/255 ZII setup?
