There was a similar discussion specific to the DFVs on a Miata forum and a few people had way more than the reccomended service interval. The logic was that the recommendation was to maintain "like new" performance and most people wouldn't notice a slight decline. The one guy did notice a buzz over bumps from the roller bearings inside.

My initial set of DFVs has over 20k very hard miles. Lots of time on track, daily driving on roads of varying condition, and most of the miles on all sorts of mountain roads, including getting all 4 wheels airborne. Still worked very well. I wouldn't hesitate to put them on a second S2000 without getting them rebuilt first.

The DFV's are built like tanks. They're EXTREMELY accurate (very low hysteresis) and extremely durable. This is one of those... you get what you pay for situations.

Can you please let me know what you have and how the service interval is?
ohlins are the superior shock. Both kw and ohlin r too soft on track. U need to opt for 16k plus swift springs. This will bring out the true performance of these Shocks. As far as maintainance on these shocks, I had the kw v3 and put over 150 track miles on them. Never touched them besides compress and rebound. And they work great till I sold them.
