Default Track car build ?'s Ap2 trans swap to AP1?

Im starting an track build with an 05 that needs a motor which I have on the way. While the motor is out would an ap1 trans be a good idea to swap in? I thought the gearing was longer/better in the ap1. Will be doing a clutch and flywheel at this time also. Any other things required if the AP1 trans is a good move such and driveshaft and so on?

Also will be making 400+ wheel. What clutch is recommend for track?

If you are making more power than stock, you will want to stick with the AP2 transmission, it is stronger and has better syncros (carbon vs brass in the AP1). The AP2 transmission has shorter 1st through 5th gear while 6th gear is longer.

Yep and with 400 whp you have the chance of needing a good bit of that 6th gear on a long straight away. Full kit ACT full face clutch setup should work well for you.

might i add a slight correction? iirc gears 1-4 inthe ap2 tranny are the same as the ap1. what makes them "shorter" is the reduction gear in the ap2 tranny. 5 and 6th in the ap2 tranny are longer to lower the revs in 5th and 6th that would otherwise be quite high and reduce the top end speed. ultimately youll just be spending more time in the later gears for getting out of the first 4 gears a little faster. that being said. ap2 tranny is still stronger and if you wanted to have longer gears, it would be better to swap the rear end of the car. swapping the trans wont make much of a difference either way

So later on to legnthen gears I should consider swapping to an AP1 rear?

Back to clutch. ACT has 4 and 6 pucks? Any preference on which is better. Was also considering the SOS Sport 400. Thoughts?

You also want to keep your AP2 diff, it is also stronger than the AP1 unit. You can change the final drive gear set to one that will give you longer gearing to take advantage of your boosted powerband.

I have no experience with the ACT clutches, but I have been running the SOS Sport Clutch (believe they now call it the Sport 325) for 3 years at 350+ RWHP with no issues, and it performs same as OEM with no slipping on the street and track... so I would not hesitate to recommend the Sport 400 for your application. Lastly, I also recommend a lighter flywheel while you are in there (either the AP1 flywheel or an aftermarket one) as well as deleting the AP2 clutch slave with the CDV (I run an AP1 slave). Both of those mods are areas where the AP1 components are preferable over the AP2 compononets (flywheel and clutch slave cylinder).

I ordered the 6puck rigid clutch kit with the Prolite flywheel.. Will chime back in a few months once installed!
